Anytime you are hitting a plateau, you could probably consider the idea that you are overreaching.

For me, lethargy and lack of mental acuity are the main factors.... sleeplessness and loss of apetite are common too.

I broke a rib and still trained. After awhile I thought I should give it a rest. I'm not sure what it feels like to overtrain, BTW. I don't really get sore or get tired even though I am older. I think I am a masochist so long as there is no blood. I always get in trouble if there is blood. What I do know is that I grew over the week and a half I gave it a rest with no effort. Also, my rib got better. Forget about the fact I came back bigger and stronger.

When im overtraining, the first thing that happens is the desire to train totally goes out of the window. The idea of physical exersion just doesnt appeal.

Closely followed but extreme tiredness, and a sudden drop in my "conditioning". I just get out of breath immediately.

A good way to avoid it is to schedule a rest week. I usually have a full week off every 11-12 weeks or so. That way I know I can avoid over training and it keeps me motivated when I know I have a break coming. Try and schedule other cool stuff during the week off like a vacation or a party or something - but its not an excuse to start eating lard sandwiches...!
