Is the burn a physiological response to a stimulus? Yes. Is it indicative of a successful workout? No.

Yeah, I have also read some things to indicate that the burning sensation you feel does have something to do with the hormonal response to training. The potential for it t mean something is there, but further research is needed.

For example, if I were to curl 5lb dumbbells 100 times I would probably experience some burn. However, I have some doubt that the stimulus would be sufficient to induce growth.

My point is that the exact requirements for this information to hold true (Level of acidosis in the muscle for example) is not fully understood based on what I have read.

I think it's really tiring. Oh, with regards to HGH release? I haven't a clue.

gauge your workouts by your burn and you're stupid. you can find research to imply just about anything, the fact of the matter is the growth mechanism is influenced by at least a dozen factors and probably half of them have nothing to do with what you are doing in the gym (diet, rest, sleep patterns, nutrient timing, etc)

The burn is caused by hydrogen ions which raise the acidity level of the blood. Higher reps and lower weight causes very intense burns and that will do about nothing or less for you in terms of your physiological response.

Doing a burn out set with higher reps at the end is good but burning a muscle by moving fast between sets or using a lot of high reps is bad. The burn caused tendonitus and the lactic acid slows down strength gains-hence muscle growth.

Indeed. You always want to measure progress directly: anthropomorphic measurements, strength tests, body fat levels, etc.

I'm no expert so dont listen to me but having read that article it doesnt "Sit right" with me - it sounds like the only growth that will induce is in the authors wallet.

I may be proven wrong - but as the saying goes, "If it sounds too good to be true... it probably is".
I'm 34 - when am I officially an old fart?
