    Hello

You are still young and you will be 'filling' out until your early 20s.

    Weight training will help.

I would train your ENTIRE body, we are wired in a way that when your legs get bigger, so will your upper body

The best exercises for bulk would be military presses with db or bb, whichever works best. Then do lateral raises lifting no higher than eye level. Do these to finish your shoulders off.

My shoulder day is the quickest workout day my entire week. I only do three exercises, Military Press DB and BB, then Lat Raises. I've made some pretty good gains, but should I be doing more like Up Right Rows or front raises. I think the muscle group there in the shoulders is pretty small so it seems as though it would be easy to overwork them. I'm in and out of the gym on shoulder day in less than 40 minutes, but normally smoked afterwards, but is it enough?

    Hiya chaps,

Isn't there something about those rotator cuffs being vunerable if abused, and if damaged, can really set you back etc?

I suggest get someone qualified in the gym, to actually show you how to do the excercises - before going all out on any isolation exercises!

My two cents: There are tons of exercises that hit the shoulders in general, such as Bench Presses, Shoulder Presses, and even Squats and Deadlifts and whatnot. These work anything but the part that really make shoulders appear round and big. You must do Lateral Raises to get that done. Many people use momentum in this exercise because their ego dictates a much too high weight. That makes your shoulder go bad. Leave your ego outside the gym and start with those “ridiculously” light weights because they will bring you results and not those heavy weights that you can hardly swing up. Start with 2-lb dumbbells and go for 12 – 15 reps. If you do it the right way, it will give you a mad, mad burn at the beginning. If you want to do it like most others do, grab some 20-lb dumbbells and swing them around. Lateral Raises is one of the very few isolation exercises that you should do right from the beginning in my opinion.

buying the weights is a good start.

after that, i would move on to actually lifting the weights. when that happens things start to grow. it is almost like magic!

To the original question: I recommend that when you do start lifting, concentrate on the lateral (side) head of your delts. The anterior (front) head gets hit pretty hard when doing bench presses so will grow naturally. Besides, it's the lateral head that gives the appearance of super wide shoulders.

just focus on pressing, putting weight on the bar (if form is good) and getting stronger.

since all heads insert into the deltoid tuberosity, they all contribute to shoulder abduction.

What is the best way to train your shoulder if one has arthritis in the sternum/joint area? I know that big chest help to make your shoulder look more bigger but I can no longer train my chest. Is it possible to have decent looking shoulders w/o bench pressing? Any shoulder exercise ya'll can recommend?
