    Intense Training

I need some real good advice/suggestions here. Let me give you a summary of my situation. I am currently a professional fotball player in England. Unfortunately I have spent most of the last 12 months out with injury, and during that time I have become well out of shape. I am currently about a stone over weight (In terms of what my career).

The problem is my contract with my current club has expired, and it would appear that I will not be offered a new one. I'm not sure if you are aware of the financial situation of the game over here, but basically due to a major cock up and a loophole in a TV Rights contract many clubs are on the verge of bankruptcy, and over 1000 out of contract players are competing for 200 places at clubs.

I have a trial with another club in 12 days time, but in my current shape, I have no chance of earning a contract. My physical appearence would be enough to put them off offering me a contract. But this is my career, and I have a family to feed. On top of that, this game is my life!

To stand a chance I need to lose at least a stone in body fat, and increase substantially my upper body strength. I am aware that it may not be safe to do this in such a short time, but I have to do it.

The question I am asking is; how?

I am willing to do anything to acheive this. You know what that means.

I don't know of anything that wiil work in 12 days. Even roids takes time to work.

The only thing I can suggest is to cut your carbs completely eat nothing but protein and good fats plenty of water. Hit the weights nothing super heavy you don't want to be sore for the trial. Keep your reps between 10-15. Do cardio too. Don't workout the day before the trial and then on the day of your trial eat some carbs. It should give you a rush of energy.

    Anyone else has any ideas???

14 pounds in 12 days? Thats a pretty big push, the above advice sounds good to me but for me a pound a day is very freaky in itself, although I have done it.

You need to count everything you eat, and maximize your diet/workout to do this, and of course the time to start is NOW.

You can lose that weight although it will very hard . Cut down on your sodium so you can lose some water weight. Fade do you think directics would be useful for him?

He needs to loose the fat not water. If he looses the water for the day of the trial, for the visual effect, his electrolites might be too low and he could cramp up during the performance part of the trial.

Sorry, but there's not much to be done.

The body simply can't restructure itself that quickly.

The most you could do would be to manipulate your water and glycogen stores to make you look smaller, but that would affect your performance in a bad way.

what position do you play? and what kindof things do they have you do in the trial? i think you really need to focus on getting in shape for the trial but that depends on what exactly you do.. id say cardio twice a day everyday... one day intense.. one day soft training... make it so that your last day.. the day before the day before the trial.. is a soft training day... this should go along with what fade said...

I play a defensive midfield role which requires a great deal of stamina of strength. I have a lot of body fat where muscle used to reside, affecting my strength and of course I'm not going to be as fit as I need to be if I'm 14lbs overweight. The trial is merely a 90 minute match, however should they wish to sign me I would have to undergo a rigorous medical, which in itself would be difficult to pass.

It's okay saying they will sign me if I'm good enough, the problem is that I will not be as able as I should be in my current condition.

I tried a harsh cardio workout this morning followed by an hour and a half of swimming. I figure I should lose a few lbs before I try to work with weights, or is that wrong?

Are there any supplements etc. I could take to help me achieve my goal? I have heard of tablets which increase the heart rate to burn more body fat, and others that speed up the metabolism. How effective/reliable/safe are these?

ANY weight loss during a short peroid such as yours would result in HUGE MUSCLE LOSS !!

all you can do it maintain the level you are at, anything else would overtax your body and you won't exactly look good on the pitch with an overtrained body.

Honestly I think he should concentrate on his cardiovasular conditioning. With cardio and maybe some light weights like Fade said in teh 12-15 rep range. He'll lose some weight with this but it'll also get his body to handle the weight he has, 90 minutes is a long time to be running around. But if he stresses his body tryin to lose it instead of training it to handle it, he'll just end up running out of energy during the tryout.

and like Sub-Zero said he'd end up losing major muscle if he's try's to lose that much in that short of a time period.

So just make the best of it and get ready to play and not concentrate so much on the weight loss.

How far you push through that barrier is the level of intensity with which you train." -- Twin Peak
