Excessive Cardio

I know in terms of dieting, that a lack of calories puts your body into starvation mode which causes one to store more fat instead of burning it off. Is it the same type of thing with excessive cardio throughout the day? I do about an hour and a half of cardio a day (around 30 minute intervals per session).

Starvation mode = burning fat, but not effectively.

What's your program like? What are your goals? How many calories are you consuming per day?

You mean that fat is still being burned in starvation mode? I thought that your body tries to hold onto fat stores in this mode?

My thought was that when you go into "starvation mode", your body does tend to hold onto more fat stores in order for "survival"? My goal is to cut body fat. I consume around 3,000 calories or so to make up for the extensive conditioning i do per day. Currently I am 5'7", 152 lbs and have approx 12% body fat.

Cardio program goes like this:

In the morning I wake up and do about 20-30 minutes of stadiums.

In the afternoon I do another 20-30 minutes of stadiums or interval training.

In the evening after my dinner meal, I go on a 30 minute jog medium pace.

Fuck man. I thought I did a lot of cardio, but that is exsessive. Your knees & joints will be taking a hammering doing that. Not only that, Intensity will suffer from overtraining, the next day's run will not be as effective. Why don't you knock back some calories, and cut it down to one session a day? Or at most, 1 x Interval session + 1 x light jog later.

All this cardio may be destructive to muscle tissue.

I think you're right, maybe just stadiums or interval training once a day and maybe a brisk jog just to burn a few calories. How many calories do you cut at? I tried cutting my calories, and I seem to hold more fat stores on my abs. I eat more frequently, have a meal or snack. I just don't know where to go with what I am doing. I've read the cutting stickies and I just haven't seen any results.

I'm not great at cutting. You really need to find your basal metabolic rate, how many cals you use resting per day, and drop by up to 500.
That's what to aim at, drop any lower and you will go into fat storage mode. I should count calories, but i'm lazy in this respect. More often that not I will be too low.

I'm just away to start a low carb experiment. Loads of steamed veg and lean protein throughout the day, and see what effect this has. I'll keep you posted, although I'm fairly sure training will suffer a bit.

That sounds pretty good, man. I recently decided to eat more salads as snacks throughout the day when im hungry, see how well that goes. I am sure how to find my BMR is in the stickies? I can't remember if I read something up on it or not.
