Phase Set/Load training?

I'm using a phased set/load training method as outlined in the book "Serious Strength Training". I have been using this for about a year now and I have made some good gains. But, as I am kind of new to this I just wanted to get some feedback from others who might know of a better way. I am happy with the program I'm using, but I'm always open to other ideas. Basically, the program divides the year up into phases. Each phase emphasizes a different aspect of training. The phase is typical 6-12 weeks in duration. One phase focuses on mass building and another phase focuses on strength. At each phase you measure your 1RM (max weight for one rep) and adjust it accordingly. Does anybody know anything about this program and can you offer any criticism positive or negative?

linear periodization

Yes I would say that it is linear periodization. Are there any issues with this type of training that you are aware of?
