Skinny guy needs some help

5'8 and 145 pounds. i work out 5 days a week and eat like a horse. I am currently 23 years old. I can not gain any muscle or fat. I even stopped running all together and I still did not gain a single pound. I need some help on gaining muscle. Not to say lifiting has not done anything for me. I am a heck of a lot more toned. I mean I am stronger and have a a good looking 6 pack..... Just wondering if weight gainers are for me, and if so, my only question is will it go to my belly. I worked hard as heck to get a ripped mid section and I dont want to lose it??

5 days a week is too much.

If your trying to gain weight you might need to temp lose the 6 pack. Also if what your eating now isnt gaining you weight you need to eat more till you start to see changes, learn what works for your body.

i'M 24 5.8 131 last time I checked, 3 days a week. All I've gained since last december is pretty much muscle. Maybe you've hit some sorta plateau?

you wont even lose your six pack really. if anything if you work out right, diet right, etc. your six pack will become even stronger and look better. but when trying to bulk there will be some skin hiding the six pack for a while, all you gota do is a little cardio and it will be there again and better than ever. along with the rest of your body.

true, but consistent training and good diet will change that. I never let that phrase get to me because that just an excuse to not workout.

Consider looking at the stickies or buying "Brawn" or "Beyond Brawn" sounds like your a hard gainer like me - but I put on 25lbs of muscle over 2 years - it just takes a while for us!

I'm 34 - when am I officially an old fart?

Reality check. If you are "eating like a horse" but not gaining any weight, be it fat or muscle, then you aren't eating as much as you think you are. Whatever it is, you have to eat more. Have you ever counted your calories?

.

i had the same problem. you prolly shouldnt be liftin 5 days a week first of all. i stopped doin cardio and remember to change your workout every month or so. i use a mix of whey protein and a weight gainer called n-large 2 you can get it from netnutri.com. its been workin pretty good for me along with eating good and my cousin who was also skinny put a lot of weight on with it. you do lose your six pack though it will just be hidden for awhile until you decide to start cuttin again. im personally waitin till i hit 220 before i start hittin back the cardio.

+1

Most people who ask me for advice say they eat "loads" and its just their "workout" that sucks, but when they actually give me a breif run down of a typical food day its just three regular sized meals, probably only just giving them a little more than 2500 a day...

Hmmm, I eat 6 meals a day and only get about 2700 or so calories a day.. too little for a 26 year old 5'5" guy starting to bulk?

Track progress and find out. If I ate what most people recommend for weight gain I would lose weight. I'm sitting around the mid 190s right now and it takes like 4500 calories per day to gain weight.

to the above fellow skinny men...

1st of all....you cannot take advice from someone who is obviously genetically blessed..... ie; 6'0 250lbs There methods work for them....and only them.

I have, for the past 3 months, been trying the H.I.T workout routine. It has done exactly what the author said it would. Strength/weight gain!!!

You have to write down EVERYTHING you eat in a day.
Make sure you eat at the SAME TIME everyday
Try not to miss a day...even weekends.

Always write down your progress in the gym
Size comes with strength increases.

Make sure your diet has a proper ratio...... for us skinny guys you need
60% carbs, 20% protein and 20% fat.

This doesn't mean you can get your calories from Micky d's!!!!
Make sure you are getting the right amount of ALL types of foods

I weighed 165lbs for 4 years straight.....I also thought I was eating enough. I was also working out 3-4 times a week..

This was the problem-- I was working out too much and not eating the right amount of food and not eating consistently.

I have personally gained 10 lbs since July 16. I have no way of knowing exactly how much is fat/water/muscle weight....however you can get a fat check when you start training/eating correctly, and approximate what you have gained whether it water or muscle or fat by subtracting the differences.

I am 6'4 178lbs with 6.2 % bf. I have been at this weight for the last month without taking ANY supplements. I took Hemogen-50, which I believe worked and I have been able to keep EVERY SINGLE LBS I gained while taking this.

My caloric intake per day is right at 3850 with six meals spread 2-3 hours apart.
My muscle size and strength have both increased by at least 3/4 of an inch, some even an inch!!!

arms- 15" 3/4
thighs- 23"
chest- 44"
waist- 32" 1/2
calves- 15" 1/4

Thanks

Thanks for all the help from everyone. I had an estimated caloric intake of around 3000-3500 calories a day. Now, I am trying to boost that up a little and not work out as much as I used to. I am going to give this a try and see what happens.

Skinny guy here

I weighed 148 pounds last summer and started working out. 6months later I am up to 160 pounds. However, I think I need to increase my diet. Should i be focusing more on carbs or protein? Does anyone that skinny and gained weight have a diet i can follow?

Thanks
