Back exercise variations

From a pure mass gaining standpoint is there much difference between different variations of chin-ups and rows? For instance if I do Wide grip Pull-ups and Barbell Rows is there any reason to add in Chin-Ups and Close grip cable rows? I ask because I want to keep my routine simple.

Nah, keep it simple. If the barbell rows and pullups are working then stick with them. If you plateau, then start looking at variations to mix things up. I tend to rotate DB rows once a week and do neutral grip (hammer grip) chins as well, but mainly stick to the staple bent BB rows and wide grip chins.

from a mass ganing standpoint; you should be more concerned about diet and rest.

Deadlifts, Rows, and pull-ups are good.

Back pain can have hundreds of differenct cuases. Weakness....well unless you are so weak that it causes you to compromise your posture in performing everyday tasks I doubt its a direct cuase. See a Chiropractor.

Agree with njc. Posture is a huge problem today because of the excessive amount of sitting everybody does. The only person who can help you conclusively with that is a specialist like a Chiropractor or Osteopath.

As for back movements, Rowing and Deadlift Variations, Pull/Chin Ups...there are many to choose from.

Speaking as a person with lower back problems don't even think about doing dead lifts until you find out what the problem is. You run the risk of further injury (if that's the case).

Peace!
