looking to get abs

I haven't really payed much attention to my stomach and abs in the short time I've been working out but i would like to try and get some abs now too so my whole body gets muscular i dont want any flabby parts haha. Can you guys give me some suggestions on what type of exercise would benefit me the most and for how long approximately i should do abs and how often, I would love to lose the love handles too and i heard the russian twist is good for that but is there anything else i could do aswell or is that about it?

thanks in advance

I'll say it before everyone else does, and that is there is no such thing as spot reduction. you can't produce abs by doing a bunch of "ab" exercises.

if you want to see your abs it's all about diet, along with cardio.

Yep, abs are all about the diet. Your compound movements will hit your abs as well. IE. Deadlifts, Pull-ups, Pull-downs.

yea of course i know im gonna have to have the proper diet but what are the best exercises to do? i know its not gonna happen over night or even in a month but i am ready to stick to a plan and get there in time.

and russian twists as i was tought to do is basically when u sit on your ass and hold some weight like a medicine ball straight out in front of you then u twist left and right bringing the ball with you and it works that love handles area pretty well.

i heard you can do them too by taking a bar putting some weight on one side sticking the other side on a corner or under a weight so it doesnt run away from you and you stand up like your gonna be pulling the weight up like u do for your back but you just hold it in front of you and twist with it.

im not sure but i think thats the way to do it :/

There are a ton of ab excersises you can do. My favorite is Cable Crunches, Hanging Knee Raises, and Planks.

As you know, abs start in the kitchen.

My favorite ab exercises are weighted roman chair sit-ups/crunchs and leg-out pull-ups.

decline bench with weight over your abs works good, substitute that for planks cus id rather not be on a mat with my ass in air with everybody watchin how long i can hold a plank.

As far as exercises for core stability goes, Planks, Birddogs, Reverse Crunches, and Supermans usually do me fine. Sometimes ill do a set of Saxon Side Bends or regular crunches to keep things interesting.

Like everybody has said though, you wont SEE your abdominals unless your bodyfat is low enough, which will require a good all around training program, and MOST importantly - CLEAN DIET.

Diet isnt PART of getting ripped, it is MOST of getting ripped.

Ditto what everyone else has said.

But, and hopefully Im not threadjacking, is it even necessary to do specific AB exercises if (1) you are not on a cut and hoping to get ripped ABs at the moment, and (2) you already do a number of compound lifts (e.g., squats, deads, standing military presses) that work your core?
