True Story

My avatar was meant to be a joke but today in the gym I watched one of the girls on the volleyball team doing my current squat max for reps.

It made me sad.

A chick that can heavy squat? That's hot!

I've seen a girl in my school gym repping like 150 for squats and hang cleans. She's not a big girl either. Her form is better than half the guys I see in there

A little more than I was 3 months ago, a lot less than I will be in 2 years. Note that I'm avoiding stating a number

There's an imbalance between my right and left leg that prevents me from going too heavy too fast, so my progression is extremely slow on squats. That and I've been on a cutting diet, maybe if I went on a bulk I would progress more, but I want to see definition before I kiss it goodbye.

Don't worry. My brother squats about 95 lbs. I see women doing more than him all the time. It's hilarious.

Nah I don't worry about it. She actually wasn't squatting my max, but neither can I actually - the either the inner or outer part of my right leg is far weaker than my left, but I'm working on it.

According to 1RM calculators my theoretical 1RM is 213, but the last time I tried that weight my right leg buckled inward. Good thing I decided to have spotters.

Yeah. Good thinking on the spotters. I'll learn that lesson someday.

Don't ever squat when you have a serious muscle imbalance, IMO.

It's not serious as in devastating. My left leg is slightly longer than my right (I really need to stop being fucking lazy and get orthopedics) so as a result, my left leg takes more of the load every time I walk. This has made my left leg have a good amount more strength and endurance than my right.

I'm trying to fix that by doing some single leg isolation work, but it is slow going. So basically it's not that I can't squat, it's that I can only squat the weight that my right leg can support lifting.

The weird thing is that I'm currently squatting 160 for reps, 3 sets of 10. You would think that I should then be able to do at least low 200s for at least one rep, but nope. I probably over-train my legs too, which is why I'm toying around with some ideas for new things to do in the gym.

Don't wry buddy you just keep working hard and you'll be squatting 350+ in no time. Hard work and consistency.
