Exercising on a BUDGET
how many of you train at home instead of paying a gym membership and going to the gym?

Well, I'm still in highschool so I get to use all of the school's machines and freeweights all I want until I graduate which will be in May, then I have to use my bench or go to the gym which is believe it or not here in Nicholas County, West Virgina $25 a month, and it's not a crappy gym, just a little small and privately owned. But I like to use the schools stuff rather than my own.

What is your budget?
Both options are viable and both have their upsides and downsides. Home: Pro - Less travelling time, no regular fee, nobody else uses it. Con - Space can be an issue so youll have limited equipment, big one off payment. Gym: Pro - Lots of equipment that you dont have to maintain yourself, spotters are everywhere, can offer personal training services, possibly other things like swimming pool/steam rooms etc. Con - Have to travel, monthly fee, there are 'busy hours' where you have to wait for equipment. Having done both, both are good and bad. If i had a large basement and lots of money id kit it out with loads of equipment and do that over a gym any day, but few people have that perfect situation. A gym will have all the equipment you need as well as other benefits and services. For the sake of convienience, id choose a gym over the setup i had at home. |

I train at home... people in gyms tend to irritate the shit out of me.
I have a standard bench, a free bench, power rack, smith machine with high/low cables, and an ab board in my garage... all told the eqipment probably cost me about $2000 ovr the last couple years. Every now and then I'll join a gym for a few months just for something different, but training at home is definitely better for me. |

I've trained at home for a good few years now and really dont think i could switch over to using a gym. Most days i just wouldnt have time to get there, workout while waiting around for equipment etc and then get back, so working at home is the only option.

If I had the space, I definately would train at home. More because I'm a lazy bastard, and would'nt have to walk down to the gym.
Although, it must be said, the sheer variety and quality of equipment offered at the gym, will provide better results. |
