Not entirely sure if this is the place for it but does anyone know roughly how long your metabolism stays spiked after a workout. if there is a difference in intensity compare light (jogging or low intensity lifting) to heavy (sprint training/plyos and heavy lifting max effort) workouts?
Yes, the intensity determines the length of the post exercise oxygen consumption. Heavy weightlifting sessions can spike your metabolism for up to 48h.
research is still out on the amount of time that it stays elevated (48h is a big time stretch). Some resaerch shows a very short spike in metabolism (30min).
Also, research has never looked at what is happening metabolically between the intervals of work (during the rest period). Intensity is the big contributing factor (the harder you work, the more you burn, etc..).
Just work hard and watch your diet and don't worry about things like the amount of time your metabolism is raised following a workout.
