    Best time to train?

I've the opportunity to use a gym and train in the morning, before work.

Is this a good time to train or should I stick with my evening weight training & weekend cardio?

I've been told that morning training is a double hit as it doubles as cardio on an empty stomach as well as the weights.

Alternatively if you can point me to another thread.

    Cheers.

I don't think it matters when you work out, as long as you kick ass

The answer I always give people is the same:

Do it when you're going to do it. When it is most convenient for you and your own personal schedule. If it becomes a hassle then you won't continue. Therefore if you are happy working out at the times you are now and it fits, stick with it.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.

I've recently began working out in the morning before work and I love it ! It seems to elevate my energy level for the whole day . Besides that it's great coming in to work with that pumped up feel first thing in the morning .
I used to be an exclusive nocturnal trainer but had been meaning to try the AM thing and finally i can say i'm totally glad i did it .
Good things come to those who WEIGHT !

i think working out in the morning is best for cutting if youre doing cardio and light weight however i dont think its a good idea to go super hard on an empty stomach if you're lifting heavy weights..(60% and up of your weight) if youre bulking i say after a meal or a few meals... later in the day..

I've gone to working out in the morning, but not on a empty stomuch. I have a half cup oats as soon as I get up and then get everything else ready for the day. I end up starting my workout about an hour after I've eaten. This way I have plenty of energy. I'm just a little to tired after a long day at work to be lifting, But thats just me.

    Cheers for the replies, guys.

As I'm not intending to start cutting yet I wasn't sure whether to eat B4 exercise. gmer, thanks for your info.

I suppose the other benefit is that you can start cutting without interrupting a morning schedule.

I think training in the morning is more beneficial !

Simply because ...... when you train in the morning - you have the rest of the day to fuel your hungry muscles !
Where as if you when you train in the evening - you do your workout - go home - have dinner/protein shake etc and then a couple of hours later go to bed - and then starve your muscles for eight hours !!

However, having said all that - i train in the evening (not be choice) !!!

    ditto to ians...

plus you get the benefits of increasing your resting metabolic rate which will aid in fat burning. in additon regardless of what happens in life (work late, un-expected date etc) as the day goes by you already knocked out your training and don't have to worry about it.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Sounds like a good argument. Some insist on night training, because GH levels are supposedly higher at late night.

I like to go in the mornings after I've been awake an hour or more, which means going to bed pretty early, and getting up about 4am. I sometimes end up going 12-2 am though, after a couple hours of napping.

cult_status, how did you feel the rest of the day after your AM workout? I bet you felt pretty damn good, huh? I love my morning workouts.

I'm just about to change jobs & have found a gym with morning sessions close to where I will be living. With all of this advice agreeing that AM sessions are good I'm convinced to give it a go.

Won't be starting for a week or two, but will let you know. I know if I take E/C/A i'll be buzzin' all day!!

    Definitely a morning lifter here.

Ditto to what other people have said about knowing it's done and out of the way for the whole day. Same with my cardio, in the morning.

I've been able to have some afternoon workouts and I can definitely lift more in those workouts, but I'd rather lift a little bit less in the morning and avoid large horkin' crowds at the gym.

My gym is swarming with high schoolers in the afternoon. I'd rather deal with morning grunters.

Working out is important, but an hour is just too damn far to drive.
