Confused Need some input on my uninformed plan!

Hello everyone, well met! I am glad to become part of the community here! Anyways, this is my situation. I have been researching diligently over the past week on what I need to do. Unfortunately, I keep getting directed to ebooks that cost $75 and other non sense. I checked out some of the stickies and now have a general idea of what to do, but yet, I am still utterly confused. If I am going to dedicate myself to this, I want to do it right. Let me give you some background.

I am 23 years olds, 185lbs, and stand at the gigantic height of 5'9" My father has told me the family is genetically predisposed toward building lots of muscle. My dad is stout, grandfather stout, etc etc... I have been at a constant weight of about 185lbs since last year. I have not exercised or dieted at all. Currently I am eating 1-2 meals a day, and I know its unhealthy. So its time for a change

My main goal is to buff up big time. I have always been told I could be a really stout dude. So basically I want to bulk up and also get rid of these love handles and this beer belly I acquired from my recently graduated college experience, you know how that goes

I am thinking 10-15 minutes of cardio and low rep high weight on each muscle group 2 days a week, and then cardio and moderate rep moderate weight on each muscle group another 2 days. The fifth I guess could be cardio and abs. Any suggestions or basic templates here on how I could achieve my goal through weight training?

Also when it comes to diet, I am planning on eating 4-5 meals a day, high in protein, moderate in fat, and low on carbs. Basically a lot of meat, veggies, and protein shakes. Would this be viable to gain muscle and loose weight?

I know I sound like a total newb probably, but any suggestions would be much appreciated! I have been working out this past week, and boy let me tell you what, I am one sore sore man.

I would stick to 3 full body routines a week. What kind of cardio do you plan on doing? As far as the diet goes I would go to the diet part of the board post exactly what you think ur gonna eat. Jodi and them will be able to help you out a ton there.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply. Well now I am even more confused... 3 full body work outs a week? For how long? I wouldn't think this would be a good way to bulk up, but then again I could be wrong. If you could elaborate, that would be helpful. As for cardio, I'm thinking just doing the bike 10-15 minutes a day for about a month until my stamina has increased. Then I will start running for about 15 minutes.

To bulk up, you need to eat a lot. The cleanest you eat, the better. You can eat three main meals and three snacks a day. Hit the gym 3-4 days per week, doing mostly basic compound movements for 3-4 sets of 6-12 reps each. Also, if you rest 30-60 sec between sets you don't need cardio. Cardio interferes with muscle growth

What Metal' said above is great if already trained but for a newby 4 times a week is a bit much. You'd certainly have to eat a lot - to make up for puking.

Try 2 all-over workouts to start, then build up to 3 later.

As for cardio stunting muscle growth, I'm not so sure. Avoiding HIIT on the same days you workout yes, avoiding cardio altogether? No need, just go for low to moderate intensity on the days your not working out - and make sure you get at least one full day's rest.

+1 for reading the stickies
