You don't get all the benefits of squats unless you go pass parallel. Why bother with quarter squats?

Exactly. He is a successful wrestler - not a successful bodybuilder. Whatever the reasoning behind it, it's rubbish. It's like moving the car 2 inches in a Formula 1 race - not exactly what you need to win, right?

Maybe he wants to overload his quads or get used to higher weights.
Either way, more depth = better. The more, the better. |

I refer to parallel as the top of the quad being parrallel to the ground; not the femer bone. I'm not sure what the rule is for powerlifters.
There is about a half inch difference between ass to grass and the top of my quads being parallel to the ground. I feel that last little bit buts my lower back under more stress. |

if you ask me the book is full of shit. go parallel or past. dont think that only going 1/4 of the way down will help at all. and anyways wrestling is about being explosive knowing what youre doing and doing it at the right time.

Maybe he would have had more success with full squats but we'll never know. A full range of motion is better in most cases, thats just a general rule of lifting. If him being a successful wrestler means he knows how to train YOU, then everybody could get huge by doing Ronnie Coleman's workouts. It doesnt work like that. |

We poke fun at the goons at the gym who get all pumped up and load the bar up with 400 and then squat with a ROM of 6". I guess this is why they have bird legs
![]() Take wrestling advice from a wrestler and take weight lifting advice from a weightlifter (provided he is human unlike Ronnie Coleman, etc.) |

Past parallel I've noticed I go into a posterior pelvic tilt. This is strictly a hip flexibility problem of mine. Ankles are like rubber, so thats not the problem. BTW, I love one and a quarters. Those and heavy 20 reps squats will make a man out of ya |

Danny, don't think that because the guy was a good wrestler that he knows everything. Often times, people are simply destined for a certain sport because of their natural ability and other factors.
If you want to have strong legs, go at least parallel. It is as simple as that. I can show you a couple hundred body building magazines where some asshole just makes shit up for the sake of selling an over priced magazine. The fact that you asked the question in the first place makes me think that you knew what he was saying didn't seem quite right. |
