how important are they as opposed to what?

i don't see them being any more important that other rowing movements.

well as widening the back exercises.is it better than the others like bb bent over rows.db bentover rows ,seated cable rows ect. or what is the best excercise to widen the back .to give that v shape

From my experience wide-grip front pulldowns and chins are the best exercises to widen the back
