treadmil vs running

my coach wants me to run 3mile 3x a week in order to stay underweight and to keep my cardio up. will it be fine to run this on a treadmill since its cold out or woud it be better to run it outside?

running outside is a better bet
i run on a treadmill for the sake of doing cardio, not for monitoring distance and/or calories.

Probably depends on terrain, hills, weather, traffic, etc.

fo rme running on a treadmill can never compare with running outside! outside is far more intense and strenuous as you have the different factors outlined above to contend with! wrap up and pound that pavement!

No. Rocky wasn't a fictional character. I was based on my great grandfather's life, the great Ricardo "Rocky" Barbosa. Really!

I can't get into the mood of running on a treadmill. I'll get bored fast. There's no substitute to fresh air filling your lungs.

Ever try breathing freaking -3 degree F air? It freaking hurts me to walk from the parking lot to where I work. I'll run inside thanks

To simulate outside running on a treadmill, put the incline up to 1.0 Its not exactly the same but makes you propel yourself forward more than just letting your feet go backward if running on a flat treadmill. As stated in the other thread, i only run on a treadmill. I have enough joint problems to deal with already and i'm only 22, don't need bum knees.

You burn more calories outside in cold air. Treadmill running is a good bit easier than running outside, when you take into account wind resistance, constant gradient changes etc.

Given the choice, outside is more beneficial, but there's not a lot in it.

Congratulations danny81! Your original post in this thread only had one spelling error. Seriously, you're getting better, keep it up! It's much easier to read.

Treadmill isn't the same as outdoors. Treadmill running is bounding in an attempt to keep pace with a moving ground, running is pushing against a solid object. OK for losing weight, though, but not optimal.

If sense were common, everyone would have it.
