yeah, they are planks and yes they are a good core stabilizing exercise.
Just a tid bit of info. There is an exercise that i have been doing that is amazing for building core strength. It has been vital in keeping lower back injuries that used to plague me at bay. And its awesome for abs too.
Get into a push up position. Drop to your forarms. The only thing that should be touching the floor is both feet and your forarms. Try to keep your body straight and your head up. When you can get it for a solid 2 minutes then try raising an arm out in front of you for a few seconds then switch. Then try lifting a leg one at a time as well.
good luck

Anyone ever tried pikes? An old tennis coach made us do them and I've kept them ever since. I just think it's a good movement that really helps the core.
Is that lke a "V-up"? I love V ups.
At 2 minutes my form breaks, at 3 minutes i'm getting uncomfortable, at 4 minutes i am sweating bad from the pain, at 5 minutes i am spent and i love every minute of it.
I had a herniated disk inbetween my L-4 and L-5 that i suffered with for years. I started doing these to build my core strength for when i did ruck marches. I haven't had any pain since i started doing them. I try and do them at least once or twice a week for a max time. Good stuff.
You can also do side planks for your obs. They are a killer
