How long after a recovery shake?

I just finished my resistance training, and had my protein shake. How long after a resistance shake can I go do my cardio workout? Should I have a meal then wait till later tonight to do my cardio?

A few hours in between would be optimal. Straight after is a possibility too.

I usually do a 45 minute cardio session, is it also optimal to eat right after a cardio workout, having not eaten for about 3 hours after the nutrition shake? I know this is now nutrition, but are there any downfalls to eating right after a cardio workout or should I wait and eat an hour after?
