Building, Soreness and Basketball. I'm confused!

I'm new to this forum but the reason I joined it is that much of the information posted in the articles on this site are right on. I wish I had found this a few years earlier instead of stubbornly taking 3 years to find out by experience. For example, I know form over weight, eat often, eat lean, eat nonprocessed foods, eat good fats, drink water, etc.

Okay, here's my question/confusion: After I lift, I usually get sore for a few days and I dont work out that part of my body until its completely healed. But at the same time, I do want to play basketlball in between healing and lifting. In my experience, if I did play basketball during the healing process, I barely saw any growth. So it seems to me that if I want to grow the most, just lift and heal. If I want to play ball, I should just not waste time working out that week. I would like to do both but not if playing ball is impeding my growth. Is this accurate?

try mixing it up set a day to play ball to give your body time to heal dont know what your training split is so thats the best advice i can give and also dont know the intensity of your ball game. like is it two friends dicken around or shirts vs skins hardcore balls out no callin fouls?

Not quite no calling fouls but closer to that than just friends dicking around. Usually full court intramural games with set teams or casual play with 3 on 3s. I usually go pretty hard when I play ball.

As for lifting, I usually hit two major muscle groups before repeating the same muscle groups again. I dont have a set routine, its pretty much what I feel like doing that day. I know a fair amount of lifts so I usually take my pick. I stick to free weights and lift till concentric failure, about 6 reps. I don't like to stay more than an hour in the gym or I get bored.

The problem is that a day is usually not enough to heal the soreness. I just want to know if I play ball with high intensity between lifting sessions, will it impede my growth (because I am not letting myself heal)?

well you have to look at the muscles involved in the sport triceps, lats, shoulders, diffrent muscles in your legs. so giving them more time to heal may not be a bad idea. but if you pick a more consistent lifting schedule your gains will be better and more maintained get your self a solid program with set days as for exercises it is good to mix things up but make sure you are not overtraining your muscles either

Since I stopped playing basketball so I've seen a good amount of gain. It's just that I want my cake and be able to eat it too.

I've also played full court games on my resting day before and saw it took longer for me to recuperate ( I also noticed less muscle growth) then when I din't play ball. Its hard to play basketball with a sore body so eventually I just dropped it. Limit your basketball playing time and concentrate on resting your body 100 %.
