Any rugby players here?
BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS High Quality Supplements For Bodybuilders and Athletes. www.ironmaglabs.com I have been talked into trying rugby. Sadly I only know about it what I read on wiki and what the guys last night told me about it.
I miss competition, and would love to be a true athlete again. My training program will change dramatically I'm sure. I am assuming that training for football and rugby are similar. Post up any tips, advice, and links you have. |

yea, football training was similar.. but they are 2 totally different beasts. there is a lot more running in rugby, kinda like soccer, but physical. where football is short plays, with short rests.. but you are constantly going 110% when in motion. so you will need to work on cardio and conditioning more than anything imo |

Yeah, i was gonna say what Prem said about the running.
There are crossovers obviously, but i think as long as you learn the rules of Rugby, it'll just fall into place with practice. One thing that i notice between the two, is the need to change what you're doing on a whim. Rather than in football (and forgive my lack of knowledge) everyone has their role in the play, Rugby is more on the fly so be prepared to be tackling one second, driving somebody off the ball another, and sprinting for your life the next. Obviously some does depend on the position youre playing aswell. |

This is a sport where conditioning is important for sure. Interval training is going to be your best bet here; if you can ahold of some time motion studies of this sport in particular, it would give you a good idea as to what kind of work:rest ratios you want to be using when working on this biomotor ability.
As far as the resistance training goes though, you are going to want to start including movements that help you generate power. Agility drills are also important, though I imagine this is the type of thing that you coach would have you do. In the weight room, just look to get stronger and more explosive and you'll be just fine. This is obviously general, but there are certainly things that you could work on if there was a chance to see you move a little more. Has is your braking ability? Do you have a high max force output, but a low rate of force development, or vice versa? Do both need improvement? What are movement mechanics like? Do you know how to sprint properly, where to distribute force upon a sudden stop, start, or change of direction? Stuff like that is something to take into consideration as well. |

Rugby's pretty hardcore, but I reckon you'd be damn good at it with your build and icredible sterngth. No pads like football, so it can get pretty rough, you'll probably love it.

rugby is fantastic. the amount of running you do is insane and between that you have to scrum and ruck like a mad man so its going to test you big time. when you run with the ball feel free to stiff arm guys as much as you want and it works great because they dont have any pads to grab onto so you can get away really easily.
i suggest you remove the various piercings you have and tape up them ears or else you'll look like ken shamrock. |

Rugby league is the greatest sport on earth.
Ive played it for 10 years and dont regret one second of it. Theres no better feeling then rattling somebody bigger then you and putting them on there arse or running on an angle through a gap and boucning off two tacklers. |

Greatest sport ever created. I'm a forward as well. It's actually not as hard as people make it out to be, just takes a little adjusting too.

From focusing on compound movements i feel i have progressed in rugby. It now takes atleast 3 people to halt me, and then i start to leg drive.
Squats, Deads and Bench. THE BIG 3. |
