Healthily you're gonna be looking at 1lb a week, so no - 20lbs in a month isnt advisable.
Manage your diet - count your calories, eat little and often, eat a range of healthy foods, stay away from very calorie dense things like fast food.
A combination of cardio (high intensity, and also some low intensity for active recovery) and weight training is the best for most goals to be honest, so id go with that.
Try a fullbody 2 or 3 times a week weight training split, add some HIIT in there aswell. Personally i do weights twice a week, and a mixture of high and low intensity cardio 2 or 3 times a week. Make sure you leave adequate rest though, i still manage 3 or 4 days rest with all that.
But yeah, like you say - diet is the big decider. No matter what you do in the gym, if your diet doesnt lend itself to healthy weight loss its not going to matter.
