Wink Are Kettlebells A Good Idea?

Hey guys, I'm looking into integrating kettlebells and sandbags into my workouts with one of my friends, and we are both looking into spending some money buying this Invincible Fitness: Basic Training ebook off of Invincible Fitness :: IFBT Sales. The guys seems pretty legit and he is uploading videos to youtube that help with the workouts at YouTube - EricInvincible's Channel.

kettlebells are a good idea, and a good investment, however I would not spend money on a program, no way.

There is an infinite amount of free information out there. Reasearch, try things, fitness is simple,
see what the majority of info is saying to determine what is good and bad.

Use kettlebells, gymnastics, olympic lifting, power lifting, intervels...these are some methods that are tried ,tested and true.
Avoid ti-bo, bicep curls, shrugs and step class.

Sandbags and kettlebells are useful tools. I sometimes get the vibe that people believe them to have some inherent magical value that makes you stronger.

Just another tool of the trade. The swing is one of my favorite movements to stick in a circuit. Although, I don't use a KB.

Sandbags are good, they are a very different medium of weight training compared to anything else. They are awkward to handle and develop strength in that aspect - grappling and moving your body with a consantly altering object which movements you have compensate for unlike a solid lifting device. They are useful in training conditioning. Any movment that you normally do that is done with a sandbag is going to be more difficult and fatiguing. Good for your grip and a versatile tool to train with.

What are you goals though?

I think they're good for SOME things. Variation is good, you might see some results from using them because they are just different from the equipment you usually use.

Things like sandbags are going to have a functional benefit over barbells and dumbells, so thats a bonus if you're into that.

Like fufu said, they arent especially good or bad - just another way of doing things. They're not going to turn you into the hulk or anything, though. Just another tool in the box tbh.

Well, I think you're wrong, , man. Weight training gets the muscles hyped, but gymnastics and kettle bell stuff adds the value in strength and agility.

Lets see what the forum comes up with.

ok let me get this straight, gaz said that kettlebells won't turn you into a hulk. then you say he's wrong but then agree with him by affirming they're better for strength (and not bass building) by saying:

KB training is weight training...it's a weight.

Besides that, I really don't see your point, nor I do see any correlation to Gaz's quote with your response.

Hyped?

Gymnastics and resistance training are very different, and thats what kettlebells are - a resistance like dumbells, barbells, sandbags, books, weighted clothing, barrells of water, logs, atlas stones...

Just because kettlebells CAN be used in more explosive style training, you can do regular training with them also. Not to mention, you can do a dumbell variant of kettlebell swings.

I really don't see any relationship between the equipment you use and the effects you're attributing them.

What you're saying is that if i do a row with a 25kg dumbell, and a row with a 25kg kettlebell one will produce a different adaptation than the other just because they are a different shape?

Gimme a break.

Unlike dumbbells that have a well-balanced stationary centre of gravity. The kettlebell has a fluctuating centre of gravity and a lever like handle, which creates a fluctuating resistance arm, generating a greater load on the force arm through a range of motion.

I think kettlebells are useful, but they certainly aren't your most economical investment. They are expensive if you want a set where you can implement any kind of reasonable progressive overload over time.

Kettlebells are no more useful than any other training tool out there, so make sure you are spending your money wisely first.

Also, what are you trying to accomplish with the kettlebell exercises?
