Yeah, I bet you have their genes.

Who the fuck are you kidding? Not only are you going to lose, but you're going to lose so bad that you're going to wish the other boxer brought KY.

when i was younger i trained abs every day to no avail. then i got older did a bit of research and tweaked my program. now i do variations on exercises to keep thing from getting stale and keep my abs strong. you should look into some of the ab stuff posted through out the forum. gaz, and witchblade have both posted some great stuff on ab development.

You could jerk off more frequently.... Build up those callouses.

Chalk up your hands for starters....keep at it and let the calluses set in. Your fingers will get used to the weight.

I still don't get the heavy sidebends though....wouldn't you be better off having someone slam you with a medicine ball?

A lot of great fighters also didn't believe in training with weights because they thought it would "make them slow." Which we all know is completely false these days.

A lot of boxers still believe this today. In fact, it seems that almost all boxers who utilize weight training do not go heavy (it's what I've alway been taught, and makes sense to me since boxing is more about endurance than power).

Regarding training abs daily, it is not uncommon for boxers to do (in fact, one of my old workout regimens mandated it). However, not with weights. I don't see how training abs with weights daily could be beneficial at all (unless very light weights.. not 100 lb dumbbells).

Use straps for your side bends if you grip is failing.

Danny and I train our grips together. It's all done at bodyweight so no need for expensive weights. It's all high rep work and perf.....eh...done 3+ times daily. We always spot each other and are usually training in the shower, in bed, and sometimes at the computer.

You know, this might explain why my right hand has a stronger grip than my left......Danny, looks like we're going to have to get back at it going lefties.

In my Jiu-Jitsu classes it is mandatory to do 200 crunches (normal, left side, right side, bicycle), then 25-50 leg outs, 25 kicks, 25 scisors, and sometimes 25 supermans as a circuit for our warm-ups. None of it is weighted.

Also, we do a kind of supinated plank supporting ourselves with our hands under our butts holding our legs straight out and keeping the line straight for about 5 minutes. Add a minute and start over each time someone drops their legs or head and we give everyone 3 "rests" where you are allowed to elevate your legs above your hips and hold for up to 30 seconds, but you are never allowed to drop your head. I usually crunch up when my neck gets sore (all the jerking because of the tourettes - usually hurts like hell - teacher knows and respects the fact that I have NEVER dropped my head and I am the only one who really has a legitimate excuse).

Of course I also do a lot of weight training with compounds and hip centric movements to improve my speed and power on the mat when fighting off my back - I can throw just about anybody off me because of the strength training.

If it hurts your hand I suggest maybe wearing some gloves, or maybe finding some rubber grip dumbells. 100lb sidebend seems a little extreme and you could probably get the same, if not better results with a lower more controlled weight. I've been gone from the board for a while, but it seems like your everyone's new foreman. Congrats!!!!!

Do side planks actually work? I've done them a time or two but felt like douche, it seems like one of those exercises where everyone stares at you.
