Go from fat to ripped without changing diet???
Hey all,
I am pretty new to this weights scene (5 months), so I have yet to hit any of these plateaus experienced people have hit. So I am not sure if what I am thinking has any chance of working, but here it goes: I have read that for every kilogram of muscle that is added, your body uses an extra 200 calories a day just for everyday use. Also, because all the new mass is muscle, the percentage of bodyfat in the body would decrease automaticall, without including the fat stores that would be used for the extra 200 calories that would be needed. So, would it be possible to go from tubby to ripped, obviously over a fairly long period of time, without changing one's diet or doing any extra carido work? Cheers. |

Is anyone going to answer the question?
Since you asked...it is true that muscle is much more metabolically active than fat, and the amount is roughly what you stated (it varies). Therefore, logic would dictate that for example if you add five pounds (roughly 2.3 kilos) of muscle you will burn an extra 500 calories a day which is 3500 cals per week which equals one pound of weight loss. Where this weight loss comes from is a different story. Also (and i know I'll hear about this one) it takes a long time to add real muscle...normal guidelines are one pound of actual muscle per MONTH for most athletes. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, but this is the general rule for people who are not enhanced in some way. It is better to lose weight/get toned through changing your eating habits and regular exercise, along with all of the other benefits that come from changing your lifestyle for the better. If it was as easy as you say, then we would all be in much better shape and I wouldn't have to be eating a sweet potato right now. If you want to improve yourself and get ripped, etc. it takes time, commitment and effort, not simply building a little bit of muscle. |

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do. |

coleman...if one is tubby then it's obvious that either the diet is not the greatest or the caloric intake is to high for the activity level of that individual (or a combinatio of the two)...
diet is 70% of this sport, going to the gym and lifting is the easy part... |

If your protein intake is sufficient to actually build the amount of muscle you would need to be "from fat to ripped" you'd still spend a couple years trying to get there. Most people ask how to do it by diet instead of cardio, not how do I get there doing nothing...
Good luck |

i agree with pony boy...HOWEVER like ponyboy said i dont know how long it would take to burn all of that off simply with added muscles... it would take an extremely long time and who wants to wait years to get ripped? i do think that if you never do cardio but you maintain the same "tubbyness" and then you start weight training and cardio vascular training then you can do it without changing the diet
