It has been approximately 7 weeks since I have been cleared to play sports from my broken clavicle. I was benching 165lbs but i had weighed 135lbs but now i weigh 160lbs and I can barely do 135lbs i have been working out again for about 3 weeks and i just cant get over that 135lbs i don't know what to do whenever i try to add more weight my shoulder starts to hurt. Does anyone have a workout plan that I can use to build my strength again. I have 4 months before football and I have to be above 185lbs before the start of the season I need help!!!

Man, you've just come back in after an injury. Take it easy.

WHY do you have to bench that amount before football? I know strength and power play a large part in the sport, but a specific bench PR? Doubtful.

You shoulder hurts because even though you've been cleared, that area WAS damaged. Its going to take time before its back at 100%.

I would just concentrate on general lifting, try adding weight to the bar every now and again, but pushing an area that already hurts and has been recently injured is a sure-fire way to injure yourself AGAIN.

Take it slow and do what YOU can and not what THEY want you to do. If you attempt to push yourself too fast you will hurt yourself and will be sitting on the bench not playing. I would rather be sitting on the bench watching the others playing because I could only bench 180 and missed the cut off by 5 lbs vers hurting yourself.

Chances are your fate will be on the bench in one of two ways.

1. Hurt because your didn't listen to your pain and pushed yourself.
2. Because you couldn't bench 185 but got close, but still healthy.

Do what is right for you.

Your taking a risk breaking it again playing football.

I was able to make gains with a broken clavicle....but then again I'm stupid like that.

Make sure you where some type of brace while working out or in any sport. I would say take it easy for some time, if it hurts, your bodys telling you something. If your focused on strength grains, eat like a horse, lots of Cal, and lots of protien. You could try a Tribulus protien Booster of you want, but I don't think you will need that, you'll be back there soon. Football isn't really about being able to bench press a lot of weight, its about having skill in the gain really. Plus, if you don't allow yourself to heal, how good are you going to be in a game anyway?
