    Hills = leg workout?

    how equivalent is doing hill sets on a bike to a quad based exercise ie/ leg press? (even though I like squats way better)

    I know if you do low reps on a leg press its much more short term mitochondria depleted muscle and you get big muscles... but can you still get big legs by doing hills? or will your legs only be good at doing endurance stuff and stay skinny?

    Hills work your heart - you are pushing blood through a flexed muscle over intervals. This builds heart stroke. It's like resistance-training for your heart.

    What do you mean by "gigantic"? I don't see any bikers with Ronnie Coleman quads-most are rather slim. That's beside the point. You don't know what their training looks like-but I'm sure it's heavily focused on specialized leg training.

    That's sort of like asking "if football is just a form of cardio, why do so many football players have big legs"? They don't just play football-they train too. Just as bikers don't just ride bikes-they train too.

    I think doing hill sprints can probably induce some level of hypertrophy in the lower body, but it is certainly not optimal.

    Hill sprints will IMO definately add LBM to your entire body. In addition to being great for fat loss, and work capacity it will make your lungs burnnnnn

    This is what I do for 'cardio', at the beginning of my workouts

    Why would you do cardio at the beginning of a workout? And how do you figure you're burning fat and building lbm at the same time? 'Cause I want some of that shit!!!

    I sprint at the beginning of my workout for max output. If I strength train first I wont be sprinting as fast.

    Um... I'm confused.

    Are you a sprinter in training, or are you sprinting for fat loss?

    He is a fighter. I think he is training for max burst output.

    No, I'm just sprinting.

    I sprint in the beginning because if I sprint after, I won't be sprinting as fast. Whats confusing about that?

    If your primary focus is on sprinting, then I understand doing 'em first. No worries.

    I think what they are saying is it depends on your goals. Most people on this site would want to do their lifts first since building muscle is a priority.

    If you do sprinting first, it takes away from your lifting work out.
