Update on surgery recovery & rehab/EMS devices helpful?
Well, for anyone that may remember, I broke my humerus a little over a month ago and subsequently got surgery to fix the bone, receiving a plate and ten screws. All things considered, I guess things could be a lot worse right now then they are. There has obviously been some loss of muscle mass, mostly on my right arm, which is the arm that was broken. Funny thing is, it used to be my good arm that at one time topped out at 19" and now is probably around 16" or so
. I really don't know because I don't want to measure it lol. The physical therapist and doctor seem to think I am healing pretty fast, which is good. I am still staying active doing what I can in the gym and following a very clean diet and consistent supplement regimen, most of the advice I got coming from this website. Thanks to Built and everyone else that gave me advice for this ordeal, including encouragement for the surgery. Yeah, I have a nice long scar now over the triceps, but I guess that is better than an improperly healed bone. Anyway, x-rays in a couple more weeks and I might eventually be able to start some strength training for the right arm, depending on how the bone heals.Anyway, on to the subject. Has anyone ever used these EMS devcies? I have heard various opinions on them. I obviously know they will not take the place of a workout nor would I want them too. I have heard some suggestion that they could be useful for my recovering arm, preventing further strength and muscle loss. I don't know if it would be worth a purchase now with the chance I MAY start strength training soon for the right arm. I know it will be pretty weak though and I wonder if this would help. My arm is already depressingly small enough. I would appreciate any and all thoughts on these EMS's. If anyone has used them with success, what brand and/or model do you recommend? I have seen them range from $88 to almost $1,000. Seems pretty expensive, but I wouldn't want to buy some cheapo thing either, if they are even worth it. Lots of confusing choices too. I should mention that I am not in a cast or anything. My arm has been free to move about for almost the last month. Just no heavy lifting at all. Thanks guys |
