well obviously certain muscles will contain more than others for everyone, e.g. calves, other than that I would say it's genetic.

    why?

here is some more info for ya!

Agreed, the percentages would be genetic.

Actually while we are born with a predisposition towards a certain percentage of each type, it has been proven that through training you can develop more of one type than the other...not to a significant degree, but there is a certain amount that can be developed...I had an article about it somewhere and I will try to find it...

Bottom line, it is largely genetics...but training can help develop them to a certain extent.

I think you’re born with it, cannot change it, that’s why some have it and some don't.
The only way you could find out is a biopsy.

Via biopsy it was "proven" that it can be changed.

    I stand corrected then.

Were all born with whatever ratio of slow to fast that were born with, and with training it "can" be changed. The way tests are biased these days usually often because the person conducting the test has something to prove, I didn't see it myself so who knows. But its kinda like saying a skinny guy can never be quicker via sprint-training.

Biopsy is not a reliable way to assess an individual's fiber type for a number of reasons: The biopsy is not consistent with respect to the location of the muscle cells extracted. Staining is highly specific and biases the histology tech's interpretation for typing. The procedure is invasive and somewhat destructive of muscle tissue. Muscle fiber typing is a qualitative procedure that relies on the quantitative assumption that histology techs can accurately and consistently - with one another - count pertinent organelles - particularly mitochondria - in the muscle preparation.

Muscle fiber typing has been used as a basis for designing exercise programs specific to said typing or as a measurement to gauge the success at changing the athlete's fiber type. It may come to pass that the exercise repetition range ideally selected for an individual is due to fiber type requirements - more likely indicative of muscle innervation - although this might be loosely determined from the training experience of the individual. Biopsy is not superior for this purpose. However, any attempt to change inherited fiber type distribution is a fantasy...

I dont recall it as changing fiber type, but the percentage of those fibers can be changed (probably percentage in size since we are stuck with the same number of muscle cells our whole life, minus growth hormone yes?).

Im not a genius or nothing, but what I have learned is from here and from the classes that I am in now. Lets see if I can make any since to you guys I have a hard time explaining myself sometimes. So here I go!

Say i want to hit the top of the chest but the Pectoantibrachialis and Pectoralis major was mostly slow twitch type . So I would want to do more reps due to the nature of the fiber type and forget about doing the heavy presses. BUt im guessing that both of the muscles have both type. I know that the fast type are bigger but if there is more slow in this area I would want to work them more so they will grow.

You catch my drift, I can never write what im thinking. DAMIT!

People have used slow reps just fine and grown, wether it be that TUT is the magic or what I never quite put 2 and 2 together on rep speed/growth, because just about all the large guys I have known always used slow strict reps.
