Many people say morning, but they are sadists.
Depends on the person. Here's my thoughts: Early Morning: Lack of energy from just having woke up. Reserves depleted, sub-par workouts. However, you have the rest of the day to feed muscles nutrients. Mid-day/mid afternoon: Best of both worlds. Evening: Most energy from having eaten all day, so best performance (in my exerience). However, not much time to get nutrients in afterwards. If i had to vote, I'd go evening or afternoon because that's when I'm strongest. Fuck Mornings. |

The best time to training is when you have more energy. In my case is in the late afternoon/early evening.

I agree with what goob said.
Lunchtime/afternoons can be tricky though because of time-constraints with work/school though. Evenings FTW. |

For me, afternoons or evenings... Usually I don't get to the gym until sometime between 4-6pm. There are times when I've gone pretty late like arriving around 10-12am and I had plenty of energy, but it kinda throws your sleep schedule off. Mornings are the worst for me. I have a hard enough time making to my 11am class.

Morning is optimal for me. I don't have energy problems, because I have my extra large mug of coffee as soon as I wake up so I am trucking it as soon as I have my shower.
But, I have a very physical job, so I can't lift in the morning on work days or I would be dragging ass at work. On off days, I look forward to my morning workouts. I think your hormones and brain chemicals are at their peak in the morning and slowly taper off during the day, unless you take a afternoon nap, which has proven to recharge your body for late day workouts. My suggestion is to try working out at various times of the day and judge which feels best for you. |

I don't mean to steal your thread matua, but I've heard that working out too close to going to bed at night can you up longer than normal, is this true in anyway?

![]() ![]() ![]() SERIOUSLY though.. hard for you to get going in the mornings with hardly any cals in your system for awhile and get your body to perform right after getting out of REM sleep. mid day you've still got gas in the tank, a few meals in ya, and plenty of time to work out! BEST CHOICE RIGHT HERE! night time you've usually had the day behind ya and it can make you drag ass in the gymm.. but it depends on the person... find what time works best for your system and go with it1 |

I was at a self defense seminar many years past and a woman asked the instructor "What is the best Handgun for self defense?"
The Instructor replied "The one you have with you!" The best time to workout fits that same answer. "When during the day do you have an open time slot to workout consistently? If you are trying to force your workouts at an inconvenient time, you will soon tire of it and quit. Is it easy or convenient to get up a couple hours early and still give you a full 8 hours of sleep? Is it convenient to stop and do a 30 minute or 60 minute workout on your way to or from work? Do you have the most free time in the evening after work? Any of these questions you can say "Yes" to is the best time. |

I train late afternoon. 1 hour before training it's a lite meal or protein shake, after workout it's a cooked meal. Then I have enough time to unwind before sleep.
Just works best around my work/family schedule. |
