feeling guilty

I got up this morning, cleaned up my house, showered and put on clean p.j.'s. I had plans to go to the gym, but I just don't have any umpff......, I didn't have any yesterday either, and I feel guilty as all hell.

I go to the gym every weekday before work, around six a.m. I spend about 45 minutes doing cardio. I go to work(7-2), come home and take care of things here, the family, the cleaning blah, blah, blah, and then head back to the gym around five. I do another 45 minutes of cardio and every other day I do about 45 minutes of weight training also. I go to the gym on Saturday morning (it's only open in the mornings on the weekends) and put in another 45 doing cardio, sometimes weight training. Sunday's depending on how I feel, I might go to the gym, might not.

So, I didn't go yesterday and am feeling a tremendous amount of guilt for not going in today, the gym was open for four hours. It feels so good just sitting here at home, doing almost nothing I have to admit. Like my brain just needs to zone out, be numb for awhile. I feel guilty because I feel like if I don't go, I've lost my commitment or maybe I'll lose any progress my body may have made. Does anyone else ever feel this way. I know it can't be healthy to live at the gym, be there day in and day out.........

Wow, to me it sounds like you're really overtraining your body. You already have alot on you're plate outside the gym. Why do you go back after work? I think you need to let your body rest way more, sounds like your body is trying to tell you something.

I like the gym. i am obsessed with keeping thin, I have to admit that. i use to weigh 220, down to 105. I took the weight off like 16 years ago. Anyway, when I joined this gym I learned by watching other people that it didn't mean anything if you were thin, you needed to be in shape. Ever since then, I"ve want to tone my body the best I can.
I really like the people at the gym. And, I have a really stressfull job and I'm going through quite a bit of stress here at home, not marital, other things. anyway, when I'm at the gym, and doing cardio, I put on my mp3 player and zone right out, nobody bothering me, asking me this or that, it's almost peacefull. The problem that I have is skipping days, if I do, I feel like I've let myself down. Maybe like I'm giving up on myself. Anyway, I usually see the same people at the gym all the time, so I know that I'm not the only person that's so dedicated. I'd just like to not feel like a bad person when I miss a work out or two.

Sounds like an addiction to me. Just like not going to the gym isn't healthy, going to the gym every day isn't healthy either.

Your weight/fat is dictated mainly by your diet, not by any amount of running that you are doing (for the most part). Natural is right though, you are overtraining your body and absolutely need to take time off. You may even want to go as far as to put on a pound or so of fat, it's not healthy for your body to be in a long term calorie deficit.

Also, cardio doesn't tone you, losing fat does. That said if you want to actually change the shape of your body, you need to lift weights. Just purely losing fat will just result in a smaller (though healthier) you.

I actually have had that EXACT same problem... I play alot of sports, go to school full time, and hit the gym 4-5 times a week... those days where I wake up and decide to myself that I dont HAVE to go, or that I earned a day off, I feel guilty, but It feels soo good just sitting at home doing nothing lol. Dont get me wrong though, I love the gym, as im sure you do... but some of those days when u stay home, its almost like a guilty pleasure just sitting at home, relaxing, and not pushing yourself. As long as it doesn't become a habit (and a rather nasty habit it would be), then its no biggie. Like everyone said, the amount you are going to the gym is putting alot of mental and physical stress on you... you will still get great results going to the gym once a day 4-5 times a week, and youl definitely feel less stressed.

Littlebit, you are to be commended for dropping more than half of yourself.

You have made your body efficient and your training inefficient. In fact, your inefficient training has made your body efficient - you have taught your body to burn very few calories by training it the way you have.

I have the exact opposite approach to yours: I have made my body inefficient and my training efficient. I spend very little time training, and I do it in a way that ensures my body burns way more calories than yours does.

I drive a Cadillac. You drive a Firefly.

Drop me a PM if you would like to change your approach.

I'm cool with a Cadillac. They burn a LOT of fuel.

I would have said "Hummer", but that has implications I don't want to get into right now!

i actually use to do the same thing as the op. when i was in the army we ran EVERY morning. then i would workout after work about 5 days a week. let me tell you i got NO where. i could run fast and for long periods of time 2 miles in 11 flat and 10 miles in under a hour. i was pretty quick!! then i also had to do the long road marches (weighted walks) for about 12 miles. so all that i would not get the build i wanted, still had that little chub in the gut. i was getting nowhere. now that im out of the army, i weight train about 3 days a week pretty high intinsity, and throw in a little cardio (could do a little more) and i am growing!!! i have never been above 160, except for iraq when i did roids. (experiment and they were cheap) when i got out i dropped down to an out of shape 150. i jumped back on the horse pretty hard and cut back on breaking my body down and i jumped to about 175 pretty quick. all that running and stuff does nothing but break the body down!!! i say get with built she will stear you right. i learn alot just reading her posts!!! good luck, and i think your just burnt out. take about a week off and reavaluate how you train and you should feel alot better. i know i do!!!
