the proper diet is key to getting cut. I've heard some people like to lift heavy and increase protein intake to maintain the muscle mass/strength they have while cutting.

He's right it's all in the diet or atleast that's what they say. And i would say that the low wieght high reps thing does help with defining the muscle, but your muscles are only going to get bigger and more cut anyway no matter how you lift. my advice would be eat clean and lift big.

x2 - lift as heavy as you can and maintain your protein intake to protect what muscle you can from the cut - it isnt easy though!

Getting cut up is not so much in your training, diet is the key.
Keep weight training, and eat around 400-500 calories under your maintenance, and do cardio, you should start loosing bf and weight.

To get abs or get cut, you need to change your views in lifting and alter your eating habits. Tell me this, If I lift heavy and worked out very nicely for one year but had 4 waffles for breakfast, a hotdog for lunch and a big mac for dinner would I develop? Probably not. Diet my friend, study on it, this isnt internet bullshit. This is bulls eye.

Body fat levels dictate definition, not the intensity range in which you are lifting. However, if you are trying to cut fat, I would continue to lift heavy weights so that you don't lose strength and muscle mass.
