    Well it depends..

What is the sport, how active are you in it, and if you are running, how long/far and at what intensity. There is some cardiovascular value in most sports, but the amount differs between sports, positions played and how intense and long you play...

Getting a bunch of friends together 6-8 and playing some flag football can be fun. Sprinting off the line and cutting back, ugghh still makes me sore sometimes.

That should be somewhat productive if your playing for an hour or so with your buddies because we all know we stop and bs alot here and there as well but with the constant excelleration and stop and go you should be burning some calories for sure. It never hurts to go ahead and incorporate some running in the routine as well unless you hate to run.

Absolutely! I absolutely LOATHE cardio in the gym; my main fat burning source is sports. I have lost roughly 60 lbs since january last year through weight training, diet and exercise, but my main fat losses came through sports.

In my experience, the best cardio workouts through sports are basketball and soccer. Soccer is EASY to get an amazing workout. You can literally be running/sprinting/jogging/moving the entire time. It is best to balance your workout/soccer game with burst of high intensity running, for when your trying to score, or getting back on defence, with jogging and lighter running when u dont have the ball. Same for basketball; sprint back on defense, run fast and intense on offense when you dont have the ball and are trying to get open, and cover people 100%. Im 200 lbs, but all my friends hate playing with me covering them because I dont tire out and I am covering them so close, all game.

Bottom line, you CAN use sports as a form of cardio, and an excellent one at that. I hate doing sprints, but I can sprint all day if im chasing a ball lol. So go hard, play intense, and not only will you be a better player and a better threat, but you will be getting the best workout of everyone! AND, its fun. goodluck.
