Doesn't sound good to me. I can't perform any type of exercise on an empty stomach. I would throw up, get cold sweats/shakes and that would definitely ruin my day.

I also ran on an empty stomach. I liked it, because I can;t run after eating. I would slap the alarm clock, throw on running cloths and head out the door. I would eat breakfast as soon as I finished my run. Now I don't have a place to do morning runs, so I run after workouts at the gym.

Long story short, I don't know if there are negative affects of running as soon as you get up before breakfast, but I never had any noticeable problems from doing so.

Makes more sense to me to have some energy before any sort of exercise. The extra energy from the food would allow you to work harder, thus get into a bigger deficit overall.

There used to be an article on ironmag by tom venuto about morning cardio on an empty stomach being 300% more effective than regular cardio, but i cant seem to find it. The logic was because ur glycogen levels are low when u wake up, since ur in a fasted state ur much more likely to burn fat than muscle. But since carb levels are low if ur doing a morning run try not to go over 30 minutes and some HIIT will give u a good afterburn for the rest of the day.

Personally, I have tried morning cardio and think its hell; this coming from someone who enjoys hour runs. I never have the motivation and get cramps if i do make it out there. So a quick protien snack before the run and then having a balanced breakfast after may help if you're like me.

So yes, cardio in a fasted state is more effective, but cardio is cardio whenever you do it, doing it an hour after lunch is still an effective method to lose weight, although diet should be your main focus.

Cardio for fat burning works great - a half hour run burns what, 100-150 calories? Why, thats... um... eleven to seventeen GRAMS of fat, GONE!

    That's - oh wow, that's incredible!

...Oh, wait. that's only about half an ounce of fat. Whoopie.

Heh - even so, that's assuming you only burn fat. You don't.

You might move the fuel substrate proportions around by running fasted but you won't burn more calories - it doesn't work that way.

    Sadly.

    Wow, I love you.

You're a realist and are quite humorous. You also know a shit-ton of info.

    Really.

Eat before you train. There are no quick easy gimmicks to lose fat.

I do the early AM running if I don't have time to eat breakfast... But generally I have 2-3 scoops of whey with water before I start. Wait 15 minutes, and go run.
