When doing one arm dumbbell rows, is it necessary to make the dumbbell touch the floor? Does it need to touch the floor? What is more effective? not touching or touching?
You can do it either way. I prefer to not unload the muscle by not letting the DB touch the ground. Having it touch the ground just makes it easier in a sense, but it is totally acceptable.
Pretty long, but not long enough lol I have to lean over a bit so I can make them touch the ground. I had seen some tutorial vids with a guy doing them and he never made them touch the floor but I thought you had to so I was wondering which was correct or more effective.
Tap maybe, bounce.. NEVER. Before the last two reps leave it low do some shrugs (I like 3 shrugs held tight at the top for a half second) and finish the reps with the last one held high and tight, IMHO.
Um... how the hell does your arm reach the ground? You're propped up on the elbow of the supporting arm, right? The humerus is perpendicular with the bench...
<assumes the "dumbbell row" position, measures out the length of her forearm, the height of the imaginary bench... scratches her head...>

don't lean over and allow rotation of your spine just so you can touch the floor with the DB. if you rotate on the way down, you are going to have to rotate on the way up, which means you are using momentum to propel the weight up and you are torquing your back under load. Stay tight and keep that spine in a straight line.
Like P said.. he has to be rotating his spine around toward the weight to let it touch the ground.
I can't imagine armos long enough to reach the ground from a normal sized bench.. ALTHOUGH.. if they really are.. PLEASE post some pics!!! It woud be cool to be able to scratch your shins without bending over!!!
Only time I let them touch ground is if my grip is slipping or something.
LOL my arms are long but not nearly as long people, I HAVE to lean over and make the weights touch the ground in order for them to touch the floor. I am no freak lol
