gym injuries

OK, I was just reading that Jean Pierre Fux thread in the Comp forum, and it got me thinking:

What are some of the injuries you have suffered due to weight training?

Personally, I have not had any real problems yet. Just some pulled muscles, and I hurt my shoulder once (that kind of sidelined me for a couple of months).

How about you?

I currently have a a very sore shoulder muscle right in the front delt. Along with a stabbing pain between my shoulder blades from probably doing something wrong at the gym yesterday.

The only bad thing I've had was when my wrist strap broke half way up deadlifting 405lb, I couldn't deadlift for about 3 months.

About the only other thing is the odd smashed finger and scraped shins, nothing that'll keep me from lifting.

Cool

Well, let's see...

1. Subluxation of right shoulder.
2. Bulging disc in L5 vertebrae put pressure on my sciatic nerve.
3. Left shoulder : torn infraspinatus, supraspinatus and bicep tendon.
4. Wrist tendonitis.

Of course, this was all before I really knew what I was doing...I was just jumping in and doing anything I felt like with really heavy weight. Live and learn. All injuries are now healed and I have no problems anymore.

I tripped over a barbell once while walking back from the water fountain. Scraped my shins pretty bad, but I think my pride was hurt more.

I have had Subluxation of right shoulder, tore rotator cuff right, bone spurs right shoulder. Once I got a black from runing in to the gym wall because I was watching this hot girl do hip adductor machine but it was worth it

Nothing major, some pulled muscles b/c of improper worming up probably. The worst one was a 45 lbs plate falling on my toe

Great forum! This is my first post.
I've had this ongoing injury for a couple of months now. After bench pressing, flat/incline/decline - 5 sets of 8-10 reps each, I always feel pain underneath my right armpit, where the bicep and chest muscles meet. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this before?. What am I doing wrong and how can I treat it? I always stretch and warm up before each workout so I don't think that's the problem. I've even tried resting it for 2-3 weeks hoping it will go away but each I start up again it always comes back. Could it be tendonitis?

Welcome Meathead,

I had the same problem and was advised by my doctor that I had torn the muscle tendon. She advised no weight lifting in the upper body area's for at least 6 weeks. It sucked but it finally healed. Here are a couple of info links and I'm sure everyone else will have more. I'm also sure there will be major disputes over the last link in reference to not doing flyes anymore, but I figured I'd put it here anyway.

Thanks twarrior.
I'm screwed...six weeks!!! I can't go six whole weeks without any upper body workouts. Wouldn't I be in SERIOUS PAIN if I tore my tendon? I mean it hurts a little, but I can still bench the same weights, if not more, than what I was benching before the injury.

I've hurt some part of my back under the shoulder blades from not being as carefull as I should have been. Also hurt my back trying out one of GPs shoulder press routines (sorry, something about me didn't like it, oh well).

Other than that my shoulders, but I have been injury free nowdays very much so, which is awesome. Have been more carefull, spent awhile doing slow workouts only, and learned proper benching technique (although mostly do dips now). Now I can put up 305 without pain, instead of working with 2xx and having it bother me.

Thankfully though I can't say I've ever had a serious injury, but like anything I'm not supprised the freaky stuff is happening to those that are in the upper ranks, just like any sport.
