If you can afford it, gym every time IMO.

Sure its extra effort and money, but when you're there its great to have a place where you can be dedicated to working out.

The gym will likely have more space and equipment for you to use, aswell.

Just go to the gym and be done with it. Much harder to stick with it at home and you'll probably outgrow the equipment you have unless you are independantly wealthy.
Besides - there's always lots of fresh eye candy around at the gym

I think you should first workout in your house to gain some stamina and strength, then join the gym later so you can use the equiptment to its fullest.

If you can buy weights every then and now then do it at home.
I have a home gym that took me a while to setup but is there and the reason i have it home is cause i go to school online and take care of my son during the day cause i work nights so i can't make it to the gym even if i wannet to , you decide how confortable are you and if you have enough discipline to workout at home.

thanks guy's yeah really the only reason i'd go to the gym is because of how much easier it will be to stick to my routine. I wanna go to get my stamina up on running on the treadmill mostly because i have to run alot when i join the police acadamy so yeah.... of course i'll be working out everything else though if i was to go.

I work out at home and this is why.

Most people go to the gym after work. I go home to work out. Have you ever told yourself after a long day at work you are just too tired to go to the gym? You can't tell yourself you are too tired to go home.

However I do have alot of money tied up in the gym.
1 cage that I can squat and bench from. Also has a lat tower and a pull-up/chin-up station. Can also do dips.
    Adjustable dumbbells 5-120lbs.
Adjustable bench for flat/incline/decline and can add leg curls/extentions as well.

So I do have alot that I can do but always look for more to add to it. Currently looking to add a legpress to the mix.

Dont get me wrong, if i had the equipment Grizzly has i wouldnt pay to use somebody elses. A full home gym is always the best option, its just in most circumstances people dont have that.

    One day i will, though.

Can you run outside? Have you ever run on a treadmill before?

My sister bought one and i use it once in a blue moon...its SOO boring running on a treadmill. I find it to be much more fun running outside, and my sister stopped using it completely.. Big waste of money.

    Just sayin'.

Running outside is free and should you decide to quit your loss is $0.

Plus if you run 1 mile from your house you have to run back lol.

Your incentive to keep running and the intensity will be increased if you are being chased down the block by someone.. nothing like a bit of added motivation to get the blood pumping

I definitely say go with the gym membership if it isn't going to strain you financially. Even if you get a membership there, you can still workout at home sometimes. If you are just going to try your upper body, it sounds like you pretty much have what you need. Get a set of adjustable dumbbells too (The kind you can slip Olympic plates on) and you'll be set.

Still, I think it's nice to have access to a power cage and a place to do deadlifts where the floor won't become mangled.

I find it hard to believe people can't find an affordable gym.

If you search hard enough, you can find a place to workout for $20-$30 dollars per month.

You can scrounge around the streets looking for loose change and come up with $20-$30 dollars per month.
