Who the hell cares about the burn? If your goal is to be in pain why dont you just do 100 sets of 10 over a 6 hour period? Itll hurt so much youll probably end up in hospital.

Or better yet drop a 45 on your foot, that hurts.

My point is that the burn means nothing. If anything, the burn is a bad thing because it means its harder to continue lifting with good form.

If your goal is size, focus on progressive overload with the weights you are lifting, and on managing your diet to gear it towards mass gain.

Judge your progress by how you are PROGRESSING - getting bigger, lifting more weight, using lower rest intervals etc etc - not by how much you hurt on the day or the day after.

Generally, higher reps at lower weight = more burn, while lower reps at higher weight = less burn.

It may be true, but again - who cares about how much your muscles burn?

Pffffft. No kidding. Besides, everybody knows that it is the PUMP you're after anyway, right.

Aw snap! You're right.

Although nothing beats a case of post-squat "no-belt roids". I hear it is quite motivating to hear that old sphincter blow out

Soreness is not a sign of a good workout, and neither is pump or burn. Do yourself a huge favor and forget about DOMS, soreness, burn or pump, because they are all irrelevant. The only sign of a good workotu is progress, and you won't know that until a few days later.

I rarely get DOMS, and hardly ever get a burn, however I progress nicely because my diet is good and my training is spot on.

Good input. Completely wasted effort in conveying the input, but good information.

if you want a killer work out with alot of progression check in with phil hernons style or dc training. both of wich are shorter work outs higher frequincy and alot of freaking hard work.

i bet in the world you live in every one is a pony, eats rainbows, and craps butterflys.
there is no damn justice in the world.

Well yeah, of course 20 reps will burn more than 3, but thats like saying "compare your 3 rep weight to your 20 rep weight, and the 3 rep is heavier, right?".

It's just that the burn means absolutely nothing in the context of progress.

No. The burn doesn't do anything except burn.

I wasn't trying to insult you...moreso the common misconception re: feeling the burn.

Its just lactic acid buildup.....and a waste of time, IMO.

I like to feel the burn. I like isolation exhausting sets before relevant compounds in a pyramid, 5 reps or less.

lol ya i am with phils program. so far freaking awesome that has been the large factor in strength increases over the past few months. from my understanding dog crap and phil's principles are very close. either way though i have had great results with phil. alot of guys i know have had killer results as well. talked to a few bros who do dogcrap and there results have been insane as well.

No I know. I was just answering his question...he said he was doing sets of 5and wasn't "feeling the burn" during his work out, so I thought it was a relevant point to make.
