I am slowly getting a cold and my energy levels are slowly dropping because of it. I am in the process of a year long cut phase which involves at least a minimum of 40mins of cardio a day and four days a week on weight for about an hour to an hour and a half at a time. Now i do break my workout into two parts, 20-30mins of cardio during my lunch hour and weight and more cardio after work.
Is this to much when one is getting a cold?

When you are ill, your body uses a lot of it's resources to fight off infection. When you're training, your body uses a lot of it's resources to repair itself.
This should be a no-brainer = If you're ill you can't progress trainingwise or fight off illness as efficiently as you can when you're not ill, so why add the stresses of exercise on top of the infection? Just take some time off. It's not the end of the world, man.

But the day gets so boring without the work out.
Is cardio okay to do while ill?

You also should think about others, last thing I want to do is lay on a bench after a sick person got all of his germs on it....I would be pissed if I got sick after that.

Is a cough and blocked nose symptoms of a cold? Yes. Not so good for cardio where you, yknow, breathe more than usual. The bottom line, is that if youre kicking your body while its down, your workouts wont be as good because you're ill, and youll be ill for longer because your body is wasting its time repairing itself from the exercise rather than fighting the infection. But surely the point of exercising is to be healthy? If you're gonna risk staying ill by exercising its kinda redundant to be doing it at all.

Im certain this has happened to me before. I always make a point not to go there when im even a tad ill, its a breeding ground for germs even when everyone is healthy.

If you are sick, stop training. You'll likely just end up forcing your progress back even further by stressing an already fatigued body.

You are cutting on this much activity? WHY? It's such a shitty way to do it!
You DO know there are better ways to cut, right? RIGHT?
Wondering where to start? Confused? This will get you started.

Do you workout at home, or at a public gym? IF you workout at home I say no. If you workout at a public gym, I saw hell no. Don't even consider working out at a public gym when you have a contagious illness. that is on the all time top 5 list of rude things to do. |

Im by no means an expert.. but... a YEAR long cut phase? Doesn't cardio training every day take calories and such away from your body that it would use to maintain muscle?
Just eat less than your maintenance, and train... isn't that BASICALLY the way to maintain a cut? B |

I didnt actually notice the amount of exercise he's doing...i wouldnt be surprised if overtraining is actually a factor in why he's getting ill in the first place.

If youre getting sick, let it run its course first. Its not gonna make much of a difference in your long term goals if you take another few weeks off!
Yes, you might be getting sick from working out too much! Yes, there are better ways to lose weight besides a year long cut which is a term which I've never imagined or read until just now. Probably because its ridiculous! Read the forum and learn how to do it the smart way not the hard way. Its doesnt have to be such a workload. You just need to rework somethings. And you can get pretty full without eating a ton if you pick the right foods. |
