Overtraining?

Do you think that training a body part 2x/wk is over training? My split is :
legs/tris
back/chest/cardio (30 min)
shoulders/bis/cardio (30 min)
off / sometimes cardio
Repeat
3-4 exercises/body part-- usu. 3 sets/ exercise

I don't feel tired at the gym, but, how do you know if you are over training a muscle group. How do you know if you are getting the maximal growth out of a muscle group or if you just keep wearing it down and over training?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Are you gaining muscle?
Are you gaining strength?
How hard are you pushing yourself on each rep/set/excercise?

Sounds like you are doing too much volume based on what you've said. I see little point in training a b/part more than once a week. But the harder you push yourself the more rest you need. After I train back I barely have the energy to drag myself up the stairs let alone do chest and 30 minutes cardio... perhaps you're not really pushing yourself?

If you are not overtraining your muscles you are most certainly overtraining your nervous system. If you are of average genetics and are not taking steroids, than 4 days per week should be the most time you spend in the gym.

Thanks for the replies. I actually am gaining a little muscle and losing body fat. I went from 120 lb lean mass to 123 lb and my BF dropprd from 20% to 18% in the past 6-8 wks. So progress is there, but slow. The recommendation I got was to lift 2d on one off, the 2d on and 2d off (the weekend). Wking out is a great stress release for me, so I tend to over do it, I guess. My goal is fat loss.

I don't have a partner, so I hit the muscles as hard as I can while still maintaining good form.

Again, thanks for the input.
