Talking [help!] Buying Equipment [help!]

anyone have any good suggestion for a set up from

FitnessFactory.com

I am looking into getting serious, and have a budget of about $1500 - 2k US to spend, and was thinking a full type of system to buy: (when i say serious, i don't mean competition, just becoming a better overall person physically / mentally)

Free weighted home systems:
http://www.fitnessfactory.com/Fitnes...ction&linkid=4

Or

Body Solid Home gyms:

http://www.fitnessfactory.com/Fitnes...ction&linkid=1

I am not really sure what exactly too look for and some advice would be GREAT! as this si a new area for me, and i don't want to waste my money for being under educated on equipment.

or if you know of other places online i can order from to start a bit of a home gym....? (must be able to deliver to Antigua)

or any real info on total gym (chuck norris one)

it is ALL appreciated a great deal!

IMO those swiss army knife type of home gyms aren't much good. You'll soon outgrow a unit like those too.

Get yourself an olympic bar and weights (a 300lb kit would be a good start), a good solid bench that can preferably be adjusted to incline/decline, a power rack, some adjustable dumbell handles and 10lb plates, and if money permits a simple weight stack/pulley system.

Only real problem is this takes up a bit more space than a single machine.

definitely go with what quakin said.
also if you got the cash, powerblocks are a good idea for a home gym. it gets to be a pain when u gotta keep changing the plates on the adjustable dumbell handles

Not bad. I have a Body Solid setup. I went with a smith machine, ID bench, Oly bar, Oly weight set.....basically the Pro Smith Bearing setup with a few options thrown in.

BTW, I have that bench. It's a good one. You don't really need the collars though. I use the cheapo spring sets my self. They hold the weights on, and make changinging the weight quick and easy.

I also went cheap on the curling bar. Bought a combo curling bar, dumbell set for about $20 locally. (I already had the weights). I might upgrade to a better set, but it's working for me so far.

BTW, I had no probs with fitness factory. Got it when they said I would, and shipping was free. (I think I had to pay for the weights to be shipped, but overall, very satisfied with them.
Good luck in whatever you decide to get.

Mr.Guvernment: I recommend you get a full length olympic bar (7ft). You should be a able to buy it with weights and clips as a set, for a lot cheaper than buying seperately. If you want real high quality bars then the cost goes up considerably.

I wouldn't buy a rack like the one you've shown either. A power cage like this one, http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/92551.html , will serve you better.

I think shipping will cost you a bundle btw... Perhaps you could get a power rack made locally? I'm getting one made up soon myself, as they're riduculously expensive in my neck o the woods.

Goodluck.

I like everything except the olympic dumbbells and the collars.
The spring collars work just as good and are faster to get on and off, I'd also get a 7 foot olympic bar and either pre maid DB or the power blocks.

Cool

SOunds good

wel, form fitness factory, they said it would cost like $800!! for shipping!

Thank you for your interest in our equipment. I just received the freight quote back and the shipping charges to Port St. Johns will cost $740 for shipping only, plus the cost of the items $1145.80 totals $1885.80.
You may want to look into other freight forwarders from Miami to see if you can do better. If we were to ship this to Miami the cost of shipping would be $90.
Please let me know what you decide.
Thank you
Kim Schwartz
Sales Manager

SO, does anyone by ANY CHANCE live in miami? and know of any freight companies?

or would be willing to arrange something with me?

Either of those look good, the problem I have with the olympic and other adjustable ones is that you can't rest it on end on your knee, so its a pain in the ass to get into position.

Hey Guv,

My mother's from Antigua. Beautiful island isn't it!

K, quick comment on the Squat Rack. Personally, I'm a really big fan or the ones that come with a better safety bar at about 3 feet.. I've had one save my life a couple times trying to push myself with some heavy squats. And even if you never use it, it's worth the peace of mind.

I'll try and find a picture to show you what I mean.
