Ok, when I am doing my weighted dips, with the belt with the chain on it, i am using at least 3-4 45lb plates. this is all well and good except for that i basically kill myself getting the damn thing on and off my waist!! Oh and also the fact that I flash half of the gym everytime I do it becasue when the belt comes down my shorts often got with it!! Anyway my question is that this weight is still too light for me now unless i am doing high reps, and I was wondering what everyone else does in order to weight them selves down more.

I got an answer do the dips when females are infront of you so the females can be impressed by your dips and your package.
Sorry couldnt think of real answer. U could try bench dips with a dumbell on you. |

No real solution, but you could try pre-exhausting with another movement like pushdowns first. or if your doing the dips for chest, do fly's first. Then you should need less weight to really make them burn.

"When I use the word intensity I mean the ability to continue past and through the pain barrier where your mind pleads to stop and in fact convinces your body that you have hit failure, but you push through. How far you push through that barrier is the level of intensity with which you train." -- Twin Peak

I agree with dvlmn666, I do dips at the end of my workout so I'm only using 2x35's and they're alot easier to handle.

I dunno, I cant imagine doing mydips with 4 45ers on my belt. It may not be the best idea but maybe you can get someone to pushdown on you while dipping.

Dont they have machines that are almost exactly like doing dips.

Those machines suck compared to the real thing IMO, and I would be supprised if they go up to 450-500 pounds.

LOL. When I do my weighted dips and take a knee and get the chain thru the weights and clip it on, is not so difficult to that that lol. Now if you try to hold the weight with one hand and get the chain thru the hole with the other, that cud be a bit of a challenge

what tempo do you use when doing dips?
slow up the rep speed & you probably won't need so much weight. get the belt as tight as you can & try to get a longer chain so that the weight hangs lower than your pkg. Last edited by rks1969 : 07-25-2002 at 07:40 AM. |

I agree with DV and Scotty. I do them last. I still use 3 or 4 plates but I can't imagine doing more. Also, while I am a low rep kinda guy, dips I believe are more effective with higher reps (12-15). If you are doing dips last with 4 plates and get more than 15 thats damn impressive.
Regarding getting it on and off -- yeah its a pain in the ass. But the best way is to stand the plates on edge, step through the belt and bend down (like a squat) and put the belt around your waist. Then you just stand up. Reverse that to get it off. |

thnaks for all of the input guys. I do my dips with a 4-0-2 tempo, and go as low as I can. For some reason, i am just able to do these really well i guess. I will try doing them last in my workout, i was just doing them earlier becasue it is such a huge compound movement. But again, thank you to you all. Oh and just as a side note, yesterday when i was pulling the weights up it jacked up the legs on my shorts (as always) and the clip on the chain actually cut into my leg and I had blood running down them while doing my dips. I flet like I should have beebn a poster boy for animal stack or something.Hahaha
