    cardio???????????????

It seems like every one knows that to much cardio has a negative effect on muscle gains. Why is this ? At first I thought maybe it could be loss of glycogen or cortosil build up. But it seems like there is alot more to it. A friend of mine said there was a good paper on the subject on it in some physiology journal. I was wondering if any one had this link. Does any one have any input on this from a scientific point of view

I believe it involes your glycogen stores runing out and your body using its easiest to get to fuel muscle. i have no website . Let TCD do that.

is it fact that doing cardio reduces muscle gains, or is it speculation? how much is too much? what about morning cardio on empty stomach?

Well, personally , I was running 2-3 miles every morning. then every other morning. I wasn't getting any real gains. I mean, of course when you go from no lifting at all to lifting all the time, you'll notice muscles more, but you get to a point where nothing else inreases. So, starting this past weekend I cut out cardio all together. I'm hoping it will help, it can't hurt! plus it will let this damn corn on the bottom of my foot heal, it was beginning to be a bitch!

I think that, varying from person to person, there is a threshold for how much cardio can be done before negative results ensue. Personally, 5 minutes is too much. My brother is much leaner and smaller than I am and he can do cardio for an hour or more before working out and it doesn't faze him.

I'd be willing to bet money that his gains would be MUCH better if he wasn't doing cardio though.

Quite possibly. I was just trying to comment as to how much cardio was too much cardio.

I guess it comes down to your goals, if putting on muscle is your goal, then cardio should be dropped.

There is no need to cut out cardio
    when tryin to gain mass.
    Just increase your calories.
    IMO
there are too many benefits from doing cardio to
cut it out of a training regimen.

youre burning other sources of energy besides fat... if you wont to grow the maximal amount you can grow you should cut out cardio all together... i for one cut out all cardio until fat starts to appear over the abs then i start to add in cardio to get rid of that fat and while im doing that i my muscle growth slows down...everyones different but the fact remains for optimal gains in muscle you should have tooo much cardio

True, increasing calories will help but muscle also needs time to recover, rest is also required and cardio taps into that as well.

I'm not saying you can't gain while doing cardio but your gains will be slower than dropping it altogether.

I wouldn't go more than 3-4 times a week, there are factors like how often do you workout and other things that deturmin how often your body can handle cardio without working against you.

i presently got some fat over my stomach. how will get rid of it without cardio in the morning on empty stomach? fat burners?
Cardio in the morning will help but you can loose the fat by adjusting your diet so your taking in less calories than you burn. Fat burners can also help but you may want to be carfull with them, some people have nagitive reactions, I would give the proper diet a chance first.

these are simple answers that I have come across. When in actuelity there is alot more to it. I believe cortosil and a few enzymes play a very crucial part in this. Does any one have any scientific knowledge of this.

I'd listen to scotty. Thats what i did and it worked for me. I just took in less calories and kept lifting, no cardio. The fat eventually comes off and you spare more muscle doing it that way.

    Glycogen stores.

Some people claim they can still gain the same while having cardio in the routine, some say no, some say just gains are slowed down - so if that is true, then it depends on you. "Hardgainers" beware.

Carbs and or fat, I'd never drop protein intake if your still looking to put on muscle.

What are your opinions on doing cardio
in the morning on an empty stomach?

I tried doing this on my last cut and I did not get the results I wanted.

I disagrea with every one on the opinion that morning cardio an empty stomach is best.Once glycogen levels are depleted your body doesnt all of a sudden start burning fat glycogenesis. Instead it looks for fuel else where (protein in muscles) Glyconeogenesis. So by doing morning cardio on an empty stomach you are increasing your chances of muscle catabalism. Depending on the type of cardio you do the majority of cals burned will be burned in the time after the cardio. So my solution 1 scoop of whey 30 mins before your morning cardio session. Then wait an hour after the cardio session and have your breakfast. U might also consider 5g Glutamine post workout with water.

everyones different ... it worked for me but i dont really like to cut so i dont care either way... maybe it was the cardio itself and not the fact that it was on an empty stomach.. as long as it worked

my point is by having the whey it improves the chances that you dont lose lean muscle mass along with the fat. But diet is the most important thing for body fat reduction

well it almost goes either way...(theoretically) lets say 4000 calorie a day eater...he sits at home all day and eats the same exact meals every day he burns 3000 calories a day... he wants to lose fat... he can choose a different everyday meal that is 1500 or something orrr he can burn more calories a day by gettin off his ass and doin something... if im wrong somebody tell me but this makes sense to me... he wouldnt have to change diet if he increased workout/ play/ whatever burns calories
