    5x5... now what

Ive been working the 5x5 for 6 weeks now and its both taking a big toll on my body (LB from all the squats) and im not getting exactly the kind of gains I was hoping for. Where would you guys recommend I go at this point I still want to gain mass/strength but what should be the essence of my lifts (i.e. 5x5 is legs low rep heavy heavy weight).

Im wondering if I should do a chest, delt/back, bi/tri, leg split or what

    advice appreciated

I would try some periodation techniques. I did 5 x 5 for awhile then hit a plateau. Changing it up helped out allot.

Try a horizontal push/pull, vertical push/pull, legs split.

Day 1: horizontal push/pull (bench, db presses, dips, bb rows, cable rows)
day 2: legs quad dom (squats, front squats, step ups, lunges)
    day 3 : off
day 4: vert push/pull(pull ups, chins, standing BB press, db OH press, pull downs, etc.
day 5: legs ham dom(Romanian deadlifts, goodmornings, GHR's, SHELCS)
    day 6: 0ff
    day 7:0ff

Be more specific than "I did a 5x5 routine." There are a lot of ways to do it.

5x5 just doesn't work for everyone, it didn't work for me either. Try a new type of routine to find what works. I assume by doing the 5x5 routine you want strength?
