    Its never to old to weight train.........right?

    My dad wants to start weight training but hes 50 years old. i was wonder how many pounds can he go up to and what age can he stop?

    It doesnt matter. Pick a weight he can do for 3 sets of 10 or so. It doesnt have to be a powerlifting tournament for him to benefit.

    my dad is 54 and he goes to the gym 4-5 times a week... i'm pretty sure he just goes in and throws some weights around at random but it still gets his heart rate up and he always works up a good sweat and really enjoys it... so i don't see anything wrong with it...

    My mom's almost seventy nine and she lifts weights twice a week.

    I'll be forty six this year and I only started lifting at thirty eight. At fifty, he'll see profound changes to his physique and enjoy a much better old age from what he lifts NOW.

    I'm 50 and lift more now than I did when I was 21. I'll stop doing it when they put me in the box and cover it with dirt.

    one of the the more in shape guys in know (and i know lots of lifters) is 53. lifts 5 days a week and does 5 miles of cardio every day.

    I'm 48, go to the gym 5-6 times a week, currently in my second 9 week cycle of P/RR/S. Watch what I eat pretty closely, 11% body fat. On the days I go to the gym and do not lift I do a bit of cardio and hit the abs again. I'm stronger now than when I was in college lifting. The youngsters in the gym can't believe I'm 48, had to show them my drivers license about a month ago.

    By the way P/RR/S has been the real deal for me! Busting through plateaus left and right.

    Studies have found people in their 90s benefit from weight training and I know people who have started in their 50s and made solid progress. Simply start, and worry about the rest later...

    Him weight training at any weight will be better than NOT doing any weights at all. Lifting at his age will help keep his strength and muscle mass for longer as he begins to go into the later years. I hope you encourage him to keep going at it!

    50, that is way young. He can start training. Take a look a the juice man, he is old and still looks good.
