    Breathing method

When executing an exercise when does one inhale and exhale, im confused beyond belief. For example when doing a bench press, do I inhale when i push the barbell upward and exhale on the waydown or visa versa, and is the breathing and important thing to do correctly.

    Thanks

(Stoked to have a work bench now)

I've always been told and I execute my lifts in the following manner, bench for example, inhale through the nose on the way down, exhale through the mouth as you push the bar up. Deadlifts for example, exhale (mouth) as you lift up, inhale (nose) as you let the weight down.

The usual advice is to breathe out (exhale) during the exertion part of the exercise and breathe in (inhale) during the other part. Example for a Bench Press: From the beginning top position simultaneously breathe in while lowering the weight to the chest and breathe out while pushing the weight back up to locked position. Preferably, breath through the nose at all times.

However, one of the great classical bodybuilders, Leo Robert advises inhaling deeply through the nose as you lift and to exhale through the mouth as you relax the weight.

The important thing to remember is to never hold your breath when exercising. Of course, weightlifters and powerlifters often hold their breath while attempting maximum lifts. This is not healthy, but does help in lifting heavier weights.

eccentric and concentric. The two ways the muscle can move during an exercise. During the eccentric part you inhale and exhale for the concentric. In other words, during the hard part you inhale and the easy part you exhale.

I usually find the concentric harder

Bench Press: Exhale as you lift.

I think it was just a typing mistake Infinatrix...
