rep tempo

Can you guys help me out by explaining rep tempo to me a little more? I understand that rep tempo tells you how long you push, pull or hold in a lift. I never really paid much attention to it before and just lifted. Results have been coming slow lately so it's time to get serious. My question rises out of the FD/FS post by Broser. I have been following P/RR/S for a while now and do not understand how to relate tempos to the movements utilizing 4/0/X, 2/1/2/1*** ***1-second hold at peak contraction for certain exercises, and 1/0/1.

-So for 4/0/x....i perform the negative movement for 4 seconds, then push (or pull) with no rest?
-1/0/1... negative for one second, push right away, pause for a second?
-the 1 second at peak contraction is confusing to me also, because wouldn't peak contraction be during x in the tempo range of 2/x/2?

I'm so confused. I'd really appreciate a quick sum up and example.
As always thanks for the help!
