Training Partners
Alright people, anyone here have any input about training with a partner? I have to say, I just started working out with a buddy again and my gains are coming fast and furious in only 2 weeks.
Beats the crap out of training solo!!! I may even post some pics soon if the gains keep coming. |

good luck nemo! I train alone bc/ I go at a hectic fast pace etc.
However, I do train someone and I do see them benefiting tremendously from my help and employing the 30 second to a minute rest using med- heavy weights. Legs are an exception to this rule esp. if doing them real heavy! |

It is always good to have a training partner; sometime even without you knowing it you are pushing yourself harder. You can motivate each other and so on, it’s just not the same when lifting alone than when you have a partner…

yeah, had a regular partner for a long time and we pushed each other to the limit every time. it was at this point in time that I saw the best gains. situation changed and now i work out at a different gym and had to WO alone for about 4 months and lost a lot of movitivation. just started with someone new about a month ago (newbie) and seeing him making gains so quickly has pushed me into overdrive again (love it!)! i definately benefit from having a regular partner!

It's not an option for me either. I have had bad luck with training partners in the past because my style is always different and i always liked doing different things. I spent 4 months working out with a semi-pro football player once and it was great because he kicked the snot out of me all the time, but that is the only person who had the intensity level I would want in a partner, someone who doesn't take crap so you can kick each other's butts.

I only wish I had a partner on leg and back days, it takes forever to load those damn 45's.

I've had a few partners, none lasted, first my cousin, then my bro, then my friend. I sometimes meet friends in the gym and if i'm doing the same thing they are we'll work out together. But in general i don't like a training partner, the workouts take too long, and i can push myself just fine without one. The only bitch about not having a partner is when you're benching, but now that i stop a rep or two short of failure, a partner is totally useless to me.

none of my training partners have ever lasted. I haven't trained with a partner in 10 years.
I enjoy training be myself now, I don't have to wait for anyone plus I train in the afternoon... |

It does take longer working out with a partner, normally I'd be out in 35-45 minutes most of the time, with a partner its 45+ but not that bad. Most of that is probably more 'rest' between bodypart groups instead of bang bang bang normal rest periods between everything.

The partner holds you accountable...you have to show up or you're letting both of you down.

That, and when I go in I am not as likely to cop out and just go through the motions. Not everyone "needs" a partner but it does help me.

Partner is a must. I need a spotter on 1/2 of all my lifts. Unless you are into high rep crap - gotta get a good part. I've had 2 in the last 7 years - both kick-ass. Brothers to me!
