    Insulin spikes?

    Can someone properly explain this to me? I understand you get them from having high carb meals? Or, maybe having a soda, juice, something like that?

    How much carbs/sugar does it take for you to have an insulin spike?

    How long does the spike last?

    Are they a bad thing?

    Can they promote weight gain?

    Can they help muscle gain?

    Also, if your happy with your size/weight and workout 5 days a week, is it ok to go out and have ice cream on occasion, or eat pizza, etc? I don't eat fast food, but every now and then having ice cream with a date or something...I mean, as long as i stay within my maintenance calories, I'm not going to get fat by eating unhealthy food, right?

    pwo they are alright because it helps "shuttle" the nutrients straight to muscles to replace glycogen store and with increased uptake of protein n stuff it's a good time IF you want to do it.
    however i do not think its good to do it regularly because your body can get a "resistance" to insulin (well not a resistance but u get wat i mean) aka diabetes

    also it promotes fat store if you eat excess sugars

    things like dextrose and maltodextrin and i think just sugars in drinks, table sugar etc cause the spikes, how much depends on the individual although i think about 20g is way more than enough.

    again spikes last according to how much sugar(general term) you've ingested

    Insulin is a hormone used to regulate blood sugar concentration. If you take a sudden load of sugar in at once, a large amount of insulin will be produced in order to lower the blood sugar concentration.

    The problem with doing this often is that you can become resistent to insulin due to the large amounts of it floating around at once.

    Obviously, being resistant is a bad thing because you will be less and less efficient at regulating blood sugar.
