pwo they are alright because it helps "shuttle" the nutrients straight to muscles to replace glycogen store and with increased uptake of protein n stuff it's a good time IF you want to do it.
however i do not think its good to do it regularly because your body can get a "resistance" to insulin (well not a resistance but u get wat i mean) aka diabetes
also it promotes fat store if you eat excess sugars
things like dextrose and maltodextrin and i think just sugars in drinks, table sugar etc cause the spikes, how much depends on the individual although i think about 20g is way more than enough.
again spikes last according to how much sugar(general term) you've ingested
