Rep Ranges -- Pyramids vs Set Number -- What's Better?

    What is more effective?

My gut says pyramids wouldn't be as effective since you'd essentially be training for endurance, hypertrophy, and strength as you move from light weight / high reps to heavy weight / low reps. Since you're all over the map, you don't really achieve any single training goal.

The opposite would hold true for a set rep number or set range.

    Thoughts?

Any actual studies done on the matter?

    Thanks.

ive always liked to use a static rep count with progressive resistance. but doing only one type of thing all the time is not good either. and there is always more than one way to skin a cat.

I switch between both every workout.
Sometimes I'll do 4x8 with the same weight.
Then the next workout i'll do
    4 sets 12,10,8,6.
Next time I'll do 4x6 and pyramid up each set.
